I’ve been going to this gym for the last 3 years. I’ve never had a negative experience here EVER! I’m normally a morning goer, but today I came in the evening. I went to do my stretches and warm-up in the empty room before my lift. Not even 5 minutes into setting up my warm-up, this trainer came into the room with a client and stopped me. He had a huge attitude and told me, “You’re not allowed to be in here, and uh, haven’t you read the signs all over the doors?” I told him, “No, I’ve been going here for the last three years, and there have never been signs on the doors.” It was completely unprofessional, and he just sounded like a complete idiot. He didn’t introduce himself just came in ready to disrespect me for going to a gym I freaking pay for. I’ve worked at LA Fitness and was sponsored by them. This guy was a piece of work, and the only people he’s going to attract are people like him. My company has a gym that’s bigger and nicer than this place and pays for this membership. I don’t have to be here I choose to be. It wasn’t until he told me I basically needed to get out that I realized the entire room was barricaded. Who in their right mind would even want to work out there when the place is physically showcasing to its members that they don’t want you there? What makes it worse is that after he came up to me for no reason and disrespectfully told me to leave, another lady came in and asked if it was okay to stretch on the other side of the barricaded area—only for this jerk to politely contemplate the idea of allowing her to work out there. At that point, I repeated exactly what he told me to her. Not only that, this guy had the gall to find me after such a scene after I had clearly expressed that I had no desire to speak with him to now give me a sorry apology, in which he informed me that the area had been damaged and things had been stolen. Here’s the thing: when someone treats you like that and then gives you an excuse as if to justify it, it’s going to happen again. For him to treat me differently from the person who came in after me was a complete joke. All of this happened with your big spender someone willing to cough up $750 for this guy to tell him to eat more protein, right in the middle of it. Another reason I stopped coming to the gym regularly is because the body image scale is no longer accessible to members. That was a helpful tool for tracking progress, and it’s frustrating that it’s been taken away and replaced with some old sad balance scale from the middle school guys locker rooms in the year 2000. Also I have to be honest I hate that there’s only one TV, always playing sports. I don’t know about you, but watching the news during a workout, is depressing and demotivating. The energy in the space just feels off. Theres also this sour smell that hits you the moment you walk in the gym. When MUV first took over and LA Fitness members started coming in, my friends and I (most of whom have since left LA Fitness) would joke that you could always tell the difference between MUV and LA members. MUV members smiled. They laughed. They engaged with each other. LA Fitness members never did — and now I understand why. MUV Fitness wasn’t just a gym. It was a community of people who motivated each other. We were friends who bonded over a shared commitment to health and progress. Saturday mornings was the day every Muv member was expected to be there to unite and work out together. One of my biggest sources of inspiration was a man in his late 60s absolutely shredded, with a 12-pack. Seeing him made you want to show up and put in work. That kind of motivation doesn’t exist here anymore.e loss of motivation, community, cleanliness, and leadership I’ve decided to cancel my membership. I receive a huge clean free gym membership that’s extremely secure but I choose MUV....
Read moreThis is a new location for LA Fitness that was formerly known as Muv Fitness. The interior and equipment are still there. What I like about this location is that they kept some of the old equipment, such as the treadmill that requires you to run for it to operate. You can run as much or simply walk on it, allowing you to set your own pace. They also have a ladder system that is similar to the former.
Cleanliness is an issue at the men's locker room and they were doing some repairs at the showers the last time I was there. Fortunately, the janitors were on top of replenishing the paper towels, toilet paper, and soap dispensers.
They kept the steam room and the steam room, so that's a big plus.
They also have a recovery room with massage beds.
These are features that I liked that make it unique from other the LA Fitness gyms that I have been to.
However, what I do not like about this location is that it does not have a smoothie bar. Or offer other merchandise. The multi-purpose room are not open for view, or as accessible. It feels like you are approaching a storage room rather than a fitness room.
I also noticed that the janitor's closet have commercial washers and dryers. So I am hoping in vain that LA Fitness would introduce towel service. But these machines were most likely left behind by the Muv Fitness. Also there a weird "oil-baed" smell when you walk by the janitor's closet to get to the men's locker room.
My interaction with the staff has been limited, I talked to someone who was new and he was not that knowledgeable. However, he was quick enough to find his manager who gave me a tour of the facility.
I heard that they offer Cryotherapy at this location. But I have not made inquiries about it.
To summarize why I gave only three stars, is because it is "fixer-upper." The ambiance and architecture style of the gym, still feels like it is Muv Fitness, not LA Fitness. As long as LA Fitness is willing to put some TLC into the new location, I think it should be fine. But for now, I will take advantage of other LA...
Read moreThis is probably the worst of the locations in my area. There is a good amount of equipment and staff is friendly enough (I haven't had to interact much), but I have a few issues with this location.
1.) They put all the kettlebells in the room where classes happen or in the private training room. So I either have to disrupt a class or disrupt a client getting training services, so I can use a KB. I don't understand why there isn't a rack with some KB out in the main gym area. 2.) I swim a lot and the pool/hot tub cleanliness is questionable. I have seen the same pieces of trash floating in the pool throughout a week-- which leads me to believe no one is cleaning it. The women's locker room is usually gross as well (paper towels all over the floors, used tampons in the showers, showers that have been broken for months, toilet paper stuffed in random spots in stalls). Other locations don't seem to have these issues. Maybe more cleaning staff is needed at this location. 3.) I think having a staff member occasionally come to the pool area would be helpful. I have seen customers putting essential oils in the steam room, or opening the steam room when it's closed for cleaning, and people actually yelling across the pool area at each other over politics aggressively. Seems like having someone pop in there here and there may reduce some of the incidents.
That being said, with traffic this is the easiest location for me to get to, so it's the primary one I use, but definitely room for improvement. I try to use other locations when I...
