Last night, I was removed from the Little Theatre of Fall River under the claim that I was “disturbing the peace” — at a BYOB event, for simply bringing a bottle. Let’s be clear: I arrived respectfully, brought flowers and gifts for the cast, purchased a raffle ticket, and even gave up my seat so others could sit. Not one person around me complained.
The only “disturbance” came after I stood up for myself as a Black man being unfairly targeted. A PILGRIM walking down the entrance stairs at the INTERMISSION yelled out, “that nigga disturbed my night,” — and when I asked who he was talking to, suddenly I was the problem. Ask @ Athena Vaughn
Police later told me I couldn’t even file a report because it was a “private establishment.” Interesting how private spaces can still publicly humiliate people of color, huh?
