I don’t know that I can possibly say enough positive things about my experience at Paisley Grace Makery, but I hope you’ll bear with me while I try.
First, a little background. I am big on doing art and all kinds of crafts at home. There’s nothing at PGM I couldn’t do on my own at home. I was skeptical about whether it would be worth the trip or the money. But in the end, I decided to give it a try. I drove an hour with my husband and 5 year old son to visit PGM. I wasn’t sure how it would go given my husband is not big on the craft thing and 5 year olds can be unpredictable. I had never been before, so I had no idea what to expect. Well, here is what you can expect when you visit PGM.
We were greeted right when we walked through the door. The friendly team working that day asked if we’d been before and then gave us a brief overview of how things worked. One of the ladies then helped us pick projects. This took a while as all three of us had to decide and no one was decisive. She was so patient while we scrolled through all the amazing options.
Once we picked out what we each wanted, our crafting space was all laid out for us. We were given a little tutorial on how to paint the background. Simple and quick but filled with lots of great pointers, tips and how to’s on getting the best results. So easy my 5 year old could do it nearly unassisted. And when he did need help, that amazing team I mentioned stepped right in. They helped my husband and son out with a couple steps so I could have some time to myself to work on my painting.
Next, our stencils were placed on our pieces for us and we were given a delightful tutorial on how to sponge paint. I get it, it sounds so simple it would be unnecessary… but it’s not. The instructions were great and practically guarantee you will get a stunning final project. And they were explained so clearly and in such a fun way, my 5 year old was once again able to execute perfectly. The sponge was likened to a bunny that dabbed and bounced on the stencil. He was thrilled through the entire process.
I had barely touched my project and was helping my son and once again, multiple people working stepped in to help out with tips, pointers and hands on help to keep my husband and kid rolling so I could take a step back and work on my own project. As I’m sure many parents know, getting time and space to do your own thing with a kid this young is pure magic.
All in all, we spent about 3 hours at PGM. Not that it has to take that long, but we were all enjoying our time picking and making our projects so much, time flew by. When my son finished a bit before me, they surprised me once again by whipping out a little toy tool box with perfect distractions for busy little hands. I got to finish my project in peace while my son indulged in some wikki stick construction.
This was my first time going. I’ve done plenty of other craft-time type projects before with a lukewarm experience. I’d heard good things about Paisley Grace Makery but I never in a million years expected to enjoy it this much. It was reasonably priced and worth every single penny. I cannot wait to go back again and I’ve actually already made plans to go back in a couple weeks with friends (and no kids) so we can partake in the BYOB aspect of their crafting space.
To the ladies behind PGM… hats off to you. You have delivered a phenomenal experience in a welcoming environment that ends in a beautiful creation I can’t wait to get up on my wall. Thank you for a delightful day and an...
Read moreOne of the highlights of my recent visit to Amelia Island! This space is HEAVEN ON EARTH for the craft savvy, as well as the craft curious. Accessible to all ages and SO family friendly. I came solo, though this would be a phenomenal experience for kiddos on a rainy (or too hot) day on the beach, for a girl's night, and even a fun date night. Harlee was a great support while I tried my hand at painting, and it was sooo very hard to choose what to paint because their selection is, in a word, VAST. Best part? They've made it SO easy for anyone to create their own masterpiece -- no skill required!
Highly recommend stopping in to Paisley Grace Makery -- a must-do on your Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach itinerary. Bonus: you'll have a super special handmade souvenir to...
