I absolutely fell in love with this Timucuan-inspired brewery on Amelia Island, when detouring off I-95 on a recent drive up to Charlotte from South Florida.
The vibe is just amazing, and the taproom looks and feels both fancy and homey, at the same time. Rustic meets industrial chic meets coastal decor welcomes you, as does the friendly and engaging staff!
The beers are all amazing, and true to style, with just a little unique take to add that #artistictouch to make it their own.
And, for me, it was the little artistic touches that made this place such a unique experience! From the gorgeous flight boards (with luggage tag beer flight cards) to the insignia that captures the native spirit behind the name.
"Mocama (mo-comma) is the name chosen by the Spanish to identify the unique Timucua dialect spoken in a narrow band of coastal territory that stretches from the mouth of the Altamaha River near St. Simons Island, GA south to St. Augustine, Florida." So, it makes sense that the historical translation of the word Mocama is the ocean, or more succinctly stated by a translator, 'big water where the sun is born'."
I adore when a brewery has a story behind its name (and you can actually learn something new!) and when its beers live up to the hype!
Well worth the detour and highly recommend as a stop or...
Read moreOverview: OK, the first thing I noticed when walking in was how clean it was and how positive the atmosphere felt. Looking around the room, everyone was happy, drinking and laughing. Maybe that is where the positiveness came from. There are three rooms to hang out in. A good size sitting area on the south end. An equal-sized sitting area in the middle and a couple of small seating on the north end. There are a couple of spots outside to sit. One in the front and a few picnic tables in the back. I even liked the landscape. What to know: Most of the parking is in the back, but there is a small area next to the food truck. Speaking about food trucks, there are two that looked to be a more or less permanent feature. I can't tell you how they are, I did not eat at one, but there was a line on this day. Unfortunately, one of them was not open. Along with a bar to order beer or wine, there is also a coffee bar. Unfortunately, this was not open at the time of my visit. However, the staff was super and knowledgeable about their products. That is a key for a brewery. They have different events from time to time; you just have to check the schedule. So, have a...
