Do not buy a $5.00 cup of coffee from the coffee beanery store at the entrance to the museum, as soon as you set foot into the museum from the lobby, security will chase you down & tell you to exit because no drinks are allowed. But water bottles seem to be ok.
Thanks for replying. Your guard watched me ( because I was the ONLY person buying anything at the coffee beanery store ) the guard watched me purchase a $5.00 small coffee with a lid, he watched me tip $5.00, he watched me put sugar in my coffee & put the lid back on. Then he waited for me to walk by him on my way into the museum. He then waited for me to get 4 steps into the museum entrance where he pounced on me like a military sniper. It’s all on video & I'm sure you reviewed the security camera footage before you replied to my review here. How are you sure that when people bring mugs into the museum that they have water, sugary drinks, or alcohol in the mug ? You don’t know. So it’s ok if I bring a mug into the museum filled with whatever I want to put into the mug, but it’s not ok to bring the $5.00 small coffee with a lid that I purchased at your coffee store inside the museum building, into the museum ? You should probably focus more on the water covered floor that is extremely slippery in the museum, along with your tree house gate guards that are totally rude to parents and children.
You should visit Henry Fords Greenfield Village & see how the staff treats their guests. Watch, observe & learn how to treat your guests. Then go back to flint & put what you’ve learned...
Read moreThis is a nice museum. I went here and was satisfied with my experience. This museum has an exhibit about basic scientific concepts for children, such as how air pressure effects the movement of objects, aerodynamics, and energy. It also has exhibits about the history of Flint and an automotive gallery with cars produced in Flint, both of which I saw. The Flint history exhibit had several interesting facts about the history of the city, an informative explanation of the history of Native Americans in Genesee County, and a good explanation of the history of automotive manufacturing in Flint and why Flint became such a large hub for that industry. This exhibit also had the last Buick LeSabre produced at the Buick City Car Factory. The automotive gallery has the world’s second oldest surviving Chevrolet, the Pontiac Phantom concept car, a concept car from the 1950s with a backup camera, and several others. It also has an assembly line in which you can assemble car parts. In addition to that, there’s a pedestal that displays a different GM concept car every year. After looking at these cars I left, satisfied either my experience. I gave this museum five stars because it has an interesting and informative exhibit about the history of Flint and a small albeit excellent automotive gallery with concept cars that can be seen...
Read moreWe finally got to visit the updated and enhanced Sloan Museum of Discovery. The new museum was free to enter for Genesee County residents with proof of residency. If there is a special exhibit it will cost money to enter. The museum is clean however, there were a few kinks that need ti be worked out on some of the displays in both the kids area and in the Sloan exhibit with vehicles. There was some programming for children that were making crafts. I felt the directions needed to be a bit more clear on how to get the movies to run. Activation occurs when you step on the grey carpet. I liked the exhibits and collections, I just wish there was even more to look at within the museum. I also felt that it could be clearer how to walk through the museum. There was signage out the doors, but would have been helpful within to make sure you knew how to navigate to see all the displays. There was a gift shop and Coffee Beanery within the museum. I didn’t make it to the gift shop, but I did buy a few drinks at the coffee shop and a scone. It seemed to be a little expensive and the personnel was not overly friendly. We didn’t about 3 hours at the museum. All in all, I thought this was a great day out and is something that every Genesee County resident should take advantage of as well as residents outside of...
