Lovely Sunset Cruise with family/older children in July. It was exceptionally easy to book online, same day, and parking was easy. Capt Johnny is not only a pleasant host, but overall, seems to be a genuinely nice guy, which is something that I greatly value! He knows the water and area well, is quick with a story and willing to answer questions, but also allows you time to chat amongst yourselves. The boat is as it appears on others' photos are accurate. Notes: Bring your playlist downloaded/curated so you can personalize the trip w/provided Bluetooth speaker. As you should expect, there's not really any shade, which was no problem for the sunset cruise, but you have got to consider that on a day cruise. Ocean breezes do help. We didn't bring/need drinks, but the YETI cooler was cold and ready to receive. This was one of the highlights of our trip. Not only picturesque, so that it will be imbedded in our memories with many fun photos taken, but because a sailboat atmosphere really facilitates joy and laughter as we talked amongst ourselves. There is something about being on a sailboat underway that makes me feel relaxed and yet adventuring at the same time.

I booked a 3-hour cruise with Sail Folly as a surprise for my bonus daughter, who was visiting from LSU for a quick weekend trip. A week before the cruise, I injured my back (classic “sleep injury” — aging is wild!), and I started to worry about how I’d manage getting on and off the boat. We were also bringing my elderly mother, so I had similar concerns for her.

I called Sail Folly and spoke with Captain Johnny, who was incredibly kind and reassuring. He walked me through the boarding process and promised calm, smooth waters — and he was right!

We ended up cruising with Captain Marc, and the entire experience was perfect from start to finish. We saw so many dolphins and stopped at a sandbar to look for shells. Captain Marc was especially sweet with my mom, chatting with her the whole time and making her feel so comfortable. On the way back, he even stopped so my husband and daughter could jump in for a swim.

It was a beautiful day full of unforgettable memories. If you’re thinking about booking with Sail Folly — do it! You won’t be...

When we booked our trip to Folly Beach, we were really interested in doing a sunset cruise, but on our first search, we found that many of the options were leaving from Charleston. We didn't want to drive, so kept searching for something leaving from Folly Beach, and that's how we found Sail Folly. What an amazing experience we had! We took the sunset cruise; there was a group of four of us, and we were the only ones on the boat. Captain Johnny was so wonderfully accommodating and informative. He told us all about the salt marshes, Folly Creek, and even told us stories about some of the abandoned boats around the area. We saw at least three pairs of dolphins! Since the boat is smallish (but comfy!), we were pretty close to the dolphins, which was an awesome experience. The captain also had a cooler on board for all of our beverages, which was very convenient. We had such a blast, and didn't break the bank. I would very highly recommend Captain Johnny...

We sailed on a sunset cruise on catamaran. On our first try the weather turned stormy and we had to come back early. The captain refused to take any money (!) since we could not complete our full trip and offered to reschedule. On our second try the weather was fully cooperating and we had an amazing time sailing as sun gently touched down and dolphins swam all around the boat. The catamaran was very comfortable, with oversized bean bags for sitting, captain had a Bluetooth speaker playing nice music and a cooler ready for our drinks. There were four of us with a small dog (yes they are very dog friendly) and the boat had plenty of space and was very comfortable. However, it was the customer friendly approach from the owner and captain that impressed us the most. Highly recommended if you are in the Folly Island area.

Sail Folly is an absolute must-do in Folly Beach! My boyfriend and I went on a private sunset cruise with Captain Richard, and it was an unforgettable experience. Captain Richard was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and kept us entertained with fascinating stories. One highlight was stopping at a sandbar that disappears during high tide—we found the most amazing (and huge!) shells, the kind you’d never find on the beach. The cruise itself was breathtaking. We saw so many dolphins up close and enjoyed a stunning view of the sunset. The peacefulness of the water combined with the beauty of the scenery made it feel like a dream. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a unique and memorable experience in Folly Beach. Thank you, Captain Richard, for such a special evening!

This sail was the highlight of a girls weekend in Charleston! There were 5 of us and it was the perfect ambiance to enjoy the sunset scenery and have it all to ourselves with our own playlist and bottle of wine. Water was not choppy, and boat was set up with 3 comfy bean bag chairs. Johnny is incredible and had cups for our wine when we forgot ours and offered to take several group pics to capture the memories. I travel for my job and absolutely love sunsets and being on the water so I’ve done many other sunset sails in other cities and this one tops them all. Soo much better than a public sail with strangers and the boat captain having a limited variety of drinks/music. It was so lovely to be able to enjoy conversation and laughs in a more private way. Highly recommend!
