I was excited to try this place suggested by a local. Scanning the menu I noticed the “Today’s Catch” option and instructions to ask the server for details. I asked, they were out. I asked what it was and to my surprise, it was Salmon….. in South Carolina…. Then my waitress said “we didn’t actually catch it and you can’t locally.” Red flag. Thus, I ordered the burger. I was asked “how do you want that cooked?” To which I replied “medium-rare”. It came back well done. The food was dropped off and I never even got a chance to tell her it was well done because she never came back. I waited and waited for a refill. Until I just got up and asked for one at the bar. I’m usually patient, but when I got up, I noticed our waitress counting her cash. And she passed us several times in no rush, and the place was not busy. Still no sign of her coming. My wife got the Mahi Tacos. Covered in bagged style cheese… and a side of Cheese grits that were absolutely atrocious. I am not a picky eater but when I tell you. I LITERALLY had to spit it out it was so bad. Bland, dry disgusting grits. Again, didn’t get a chance to express that. We waited forever for the check until finally our waitress came back with her tablet ready to collect her un-earned tip. Overall a true “ washout “ indeed. Hard earned Money down the drain unfortunately

The Washout is definitely a surfer/ beachgoer drop in joint. They have an interior dining area and large outdoor covered area as well as a large wide open area with tables, corn hole and a stage. Menu varies from burgers to frisd seafood baskets, salads, and delicious She Crab soup. The small house salad was generous with a large helping of mixed shredded cheese. Choice of dressing. The large house salad with grilled shrimp was yummy with their balsamic vinaigrette. 7 shrimp in the serving. The lobster roll was traditional Maine with just the right amount of mayo, a good portion of lobster on a buttered toasted split top roll. The last dish was fried basket of scallops and oysters. ($25). The fries were battered and seasoned. I personally don't like battered fries. The oysters and scallops had too much / too thick breading to my taste. Kinda killed the seafood flavor. I think they make their own tartar sauce, it was creamy and tasty. Service was exceptional, our beverages were kept full and cold. We were even given to go drinks without asking! Very sweet. Lots of Tvs for sports and whatnot. Lots to choose from in Folly. This is worth a visit.

I wish I could give this place a better review. Food was typical enjoyable bar food. I ordered the fried seafood platter . Shrimp and fish were great. I’ve eaten a lot of scallops in my life, and something was off. I don’t want to accuse but in my personal opinion the scallops were not true scallops as advertised. They all were the same shape , weight, and size. The muscle grains did not run vertical like they would on a sea scallop. The center of these looked like processed fish. They tasted fine it just upset me to have paid $32 for what I thought were true scallops. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say most people wouldn’t catch this because they are fried and it’s hard to tell. Service was terrible but they were understaffed and the employees all worked their butts off (can’t blame them). Overall atmosphere is nice and drinks were good. If they didn’t lie about their food I would have given them a much better review.

I haven't gone back to the restaurant as I haven't been able to get out much but the owner did respond to work something out with me so I can't just leave a one star rating. I would have gone back or talked to him, but I've been overwhelmed lately with health issues and a move. I have a feeling maybe this restaurant might be struggling (short staffed, the piece of fish on my sandwich was half the size of the sandwich and overcooked when we ordered them m-rare, our side orders of fries were so small it was as if it was one order of fries split in half. Too little food and too long a wait for the $40 price tag. Maybe there was only one cook during a small rush. I really hope there was a good reason for this but honestly after waiting an hour and a half for such an expensive disappointment... I digress, the food should have not left the kitchen the way it was, and I'm honestly not a snob. I'm really not lol. There were two or three servers the whole restaurant and no host. I hope he has hired some more people. I know fish isn't cheap but for the price, the salmon blt should have a filet which is the size of a slice of bread and cooked as specified. The waiter asked how we wanted it and we said medium rare. It was overdone.. Easy mistake but also easily avoidable. Only takes 5 minutes to grill a mrare fish filet. I would give this restaurant another chance as the crab soup was very good, the waiter was nice in offering us the soup after we waited so long, and their menu had some intriguing ideas. (Ijust hope they are as described bc the salmon blt wasn't but the way they made it like a club sandwich was great. it was just ruined (tiny tomato, one slice overcooked bacon, soggy lettuce (reused? I hope not!) and no sauce as described) but would be cautious because I also can't really afford to go out to eat so the chances of going here again are very low. I just wish I had said something before my boyfriend paid because I felt bad about that. (I actually would love to cook at a restaurant again. I worked at a diner in the afternoons by myself; was prep, cook, waiter, host, dishwasher and cashier all in one. It was hectic but I enjoyed it. Timing is everything.)

Original review: I tried to call to talk to the owner but the call wouldn't go through. I want to make this right so would like to speak to someone. We went there on a Monday afternoon and everything was not good. Waited too long for seating, service, and way WAY too long for food, like 45 minutes. It was after lunch so not busy. Over all we were there for over an hour and a half and didn't have quality time to spend together on our last day together for a while. Our food was completely disappointing and not as ordered. I thought I didn't feel well because I'm pregnant but my bf said he feels sick too. Waited so long for condiments and refills we went without because it took so long and my boyfriend had a long trip ahead to work the next day: both of us wanted to complain but as former food service employees didn't want to be impolite. We always tip above 20%. But honestly, it was the worst experience at a restaurant either of us had, and my boyfriend felt like he threw away his hard earned money because it wasn't just the food or the service, it was everything. Would like to make this right somehow. Also, I'm guessing it must have been an off day.. Maybe a new cook or short staffed... My bf noticed the cook came out and asked the people on either side of us how the food was but didn't ask us. I really wish we had said something but I am just not used to complaining at restaurants. Never had a bad...

Possibly a four star on a better day, but there were enough little things tonight to call it a three. The food was solidly decent, but nothing was spectacular. The she crab soup was really good, though. Tonight, though, between some menu items being unavailable (partially because the kitchen was apparently ready to close), and a server that was pretty clearly ready to be done with her shift (and who also failed to mention the kitchen was about to close), it was just ok.

We came to the Washout in search of their lobster grilled cheese... which on arrival we were informed is no longer on the menu. And I was told they can't make one on request (even though they have grilled cheese on the menu, and lobster roll on the menu). Ok, fine, I get not every place is interested in special orders. So, how about the lobster roll, then?? Nope, out of lobster. Also, out of sweet potato fries... likely because the kitchen was about to close.

I am kind of harping on the kitchen closing thing because our server (Allison, I believe) didn't actually let us know the kitchen was closing until she came to check on our food and see if we wanted anything else. We actually DID want some other things... but then she said the kitchen was already closed. Didn't see her again until my wife had to go find someone else to get us some drink refills... so, it's quite possible that most of the issues we encountered can be e chalk up to the server this visit.

Anyway, unless this place decides to resurrect a lobster grilled cheese, I think we've had our fill of the Washout. Hope you have a better experience (the bar looked pretty fun... maybe that's what they prefer...

Service with an Attitude!

For starters, I was too tired to dine in, so I tried calling in a to go order, but after 5 tries, I was unable to get ahold of anyone. I figured they were just busy, since it was a theme night, so I walked over anyway. When I get there, the 2 hostesses told me I needed to put in my to go order at the bar, then go back to talking to each other. They didn’t even bother giving me a menu. I walk over to the bar to put in my order and the guy who served me asked what I needed and when I told him I was told to put in a to go order back there, he said he needed to check on that. He came back and asked what I wanted, and I told him I needed to see a menu. He gave me a menu and took my order then gave me my receipt and told me it would be a few minutes and walked away. He was very short and huffy with me during all these transactions. When he came with my bag, he handed it to me and walked away before I could even say thank you! It’s like he couldn’t get rid of me quick enough. I was humiliated!

I understand it was a busy night, but if it wasn’t ok for me to place a to go order, all these people had to do was tell me so. I’ve been to many restaurants in my life that are packed busy like that and even have theme nights, and have received exceptional service, but The Washout will not make that list for me! I am very disappointed in the treatment I received and will not be going back. It’s a shame too, bc my food was delicious and the atmosphere at the restaurant seemed so fun!

Even more so, I hope this isn’t a normal occurrence, and management will read this review to correct this issue so this doesn’t happen to...
