My family has been going to this restaurant for nearly fifteen years. We've always loved it. We had a house on Arctic for nearly as many years and have been local to Charleston since the mid nineties. We went today and were treated awful. Given the high level of tourist traffic, I don't expect the lack of business from my family to even be on the radar, but we won't be back. After given a wait time of twenty minutes, we decided that we could do it. We live ten minutes away and the toddler's nap time was two hours out. After waiting forty minutes, we checked with the hostess, (who needs to find a personality, by the way... After all, your only job is to interact with people. We aren't an inconvenience, but your livelihood. I was a hostess and waitress for almost nine years.) and she said we were next, only a couple minutes. Awesome! Then, after another fifteen minutes had passed, they come out looking for a different party of two. We asked the person if they were sure they had the right name, telling them that we had been assured that we were next just fifteen minutes earlier, and she shrugs it off saying, "well, that was the other hostess". We left. That's a sorry way to conduct business. We frequented Lost Dog in the slow season. We should still get decent service when everyone else arrives. If my business isn't good enough for you now, it's not good enough in January, either. We won't be back. This is Charleston. It's a food mecca. Remember and take care of the people that made your business what it is. Oh, you didn't realize that we had been coming for so long? It doesn't matter. Every customer...

I walked into the restaurant, which was about half full and not too busy. I didn’t see the hostess table on the left and walked up to the bar next to the coffee machines. There were 2 employees, a man and a woman, chatting and laughing across the counter from me. They saw me, ignored me and continued their social banter, leaning against the espresso machine, laughing. I turned around to speak to the hostess. I said I didn’t need to be seated but just wanted 2 coffees to go. She said the staff at the bar would be able to help. So I turned back to the bar/counter which was literally a couple of feet away. I placed my order with the female staff (the male staff had gone to the back). She rung me up, placed the receipt on the counter and left to the other side of the bar. While I waited, I saw her chatting with a couple of customers. She saw me waiting and seemed to be in no hurry to serve. About 10 minutes later, she sauntered over to where I was standing, didn’t apologize for the wait and started making the coffee.
When she handed the coffees to me, I asked for a manager’s name, thinking I would call later to provide feedback. She said she’s the assistant manager. Go figure…
This cafe has a 4.7 rating. That must be for the wait staff, who seemed busy and kept moving around the room, serving their customers. My only other guess for this kind of pathetic service is my skin color. This assistant manager was young, white and blatantly rude.
I have half a mind to call my credit card company and dispute the charges. I even paid...
Read moreWe’ve recently moved to Charleston from Charlotte and have been going to Folly Beach County Park just about every weekend. We decided to find a close place to eat and the Lost Dog Cafe seemed perfect with all day breakfast available.
We went on a late Saturday morning and while the place was very busy, our party of three was seated within 15 mins. The vibe of the place is great. Lots of tourists with some locals sprinkled in. The staff were friendly and our server rocked.
They have quite a nice drink menu with liquor drinks being available everyday after 11am. I decided it was close enough to noon and ordered a grapefruit mimosa, which was quite delicious. My wife also had one though I finished it when she realized they had iced coffee with Baileys. No complaints from me. Our little guy had “the best chocolate milk ever” - direct quote. All the drinks were served in a mason jar.
I went with huevos rancheros grande, which was amazing. It had diced tomatoes, green chilis, Colorado pork and jalapeños added to it. My wife had the quiche, veggie quiche I believe. Our little dude had the bacon cheeseburger with home fries. None of us were disappointed.
The food was served fresh and hot and our server was attentive and friendly. We loved it and will certainly be back when we head...
