Beautiful place. Scenic views. Naturally during tourist season driving into the area becomes a task with a long line of cars. I personally would not go on weekends. It'll take you 30 minutes to get into the village. Parking is $10 in the lots. Goodluck finding a free spot on the street. There's a nice outside bar on the boardwalk. You can get a cocktail and watch the world go by. You can rent a fishing pole and throw a line in if you like too. The atmosphere is relaxed. It's not advisable to have an open container of alcohol on the beach. Police officers will often walk the beach or stand on the pier looking for violators. Be smart, use a Yeti cup and don't advertise you have a stash of liquid libation. Once in awhile you'll encounter a meth-zombie or two under the pier. They're quick shooed off by the police.(Only to return after the officers return topside) It is a nice place. Take a break, catch a warm breeze, go for a nice swim and a cocktail to...
Read moreVisited Folly Beach, and folks, I swear I witnessed a fruity fiesta! Picture this: a banana, peeling out some serious dance moves on the sand. I thought I had too much sunscreen, but nope – it was a tropical tango with a potassium twist!
Folly Beach isn't just a beach; it's a banana boogie wonderland. Forget sandcastles; I'm talking about fruit salsa competitions. I tried to join in, but my dance moves were more like a coconut in a windstorm – awkward and slightly nuts.
The locals must have a secret agreement with Mother Nature because I've never seen a beach where even the bananas have rhythm. It's like the beach has a produce section with a dance floor attached. If you're looking for a beach experience that's a-peeling in every way, Folly Beach is where the fruit party's at. Just be ready for the inevitable question: "Is that a banana in your beach bag, or are you just happy to...
Read moreAs an avid traveler I came to Charleston on a work trip, during the holidays last year. Solo I explored Folly Beach, walked the pier and picked up some sea shells to take home to my two little boys.
The ocean was so strong and SO calming. I have to say this was one of my favorite trips I have ever taken to the ocean. There was something SO rejuvenating and magical about my time there, not a soul around to bother me while my personal human battery was recharged by the ocean and the sunshine.
I am attaching the few photos I took on this trip. I am sure it wont always be this empty, but if you can go in the off season when all the tourists stay home, do it! It was SO nice to have the beach to yourself mid day. The big gazebo on the dock was empty and clean and the sea gulls were just sitting on the dock and enjoying the...
