Giving this 1 star . The reason is below
So I stayed here over the weekend for a wedding that was taking place a block away . Check-in went smooth , even tho the room was paid for by my cousin I had to put my card on file just in case . That screwed me up financially as I wasnāt expecting over 300 for a hold but itās just in case right ā¦.. ( will circle back to this ) . We check in and go to the car to get our stuff and the parking garage has huge puddles everywhere ( city maintained parking not the hotel ) , my wife accidentally dropped her dress and it got soaked . We went to the front desk and explained what happened and that my wife had to get a new dress and they were apologetic (said the parking garage is Maintained by the city, and has nothing to do with them) and comp our parking fee of $21 so we were able to get out and go get another dress and come back. We got to go up to our room and only one out of three elevators is working so it took anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes to get to our room each time we had to use the elevator. Our room was absolutely beautiful. No complaints there as weāre leaving for our event. We were on the sixth floor and we stood around and waited for the elevator for five minutes. At that point we decided we were gonna have to take the stairs or we were going to be extremely late . Everything else from there to our check out was perfectly fine. Come today Monday and I only get refunded a partial amount of the hold. I called them up and they removed my cousins card information who was paying for the room and added mine, and charged me for the room and was still charging me for , the parking. I spoke with a manager who said there was also a no-show No cancellation for another room that my cousin had booked. She originally tried to do this online and couldnāt get it done so she went to the hotel who walked her through it and she booked the room ( apparently even tho the site was acting funny it booked the room ) then she walked in and booked it so now there is 2 rooms . They charge if you donāt show and it is the whole room rate ā¦.. so now I am 300 short on my electric bill due to the incompetence of the staff .
For a big beautiful hotel, Iām giving it one star. The hotel is absolutely amazing. Great view of the river from the room that we had. There are no smoking sections as it is a no smoking hotel so you have to go from your floor out to street level or the parking garage to smoke. Then, as I said earlier, one out of three elevators was working Making it extremely difficult when you had a full elevator, going up to the 12th floor for the bar or a full elevator coming down from the higher floors you were stuck waiting over and over again for an elevator. It was extremely Inconvenient. I would not recommend this hotel, even though the staff was nice and friendly. Apparently they are unable to do their jobs correctly and for the simple fact that you could be stuck waiting for an elevator, or waiting for staff to walk you over to the service elevator to get you up to your floor That coupled with The Flooded garage( Because who wants to walk to their room after their feet just got soaked in the parking garage) . Then they are charging for the parking. The kick with that is you had to get a ticket when you pulled in but pulling out the arm was broken so you could just drive past, so that means the people that were just coming for the bar weāre not having to pay for parking at all, but youāre the people who are paying $300 a night for a hotel room pay for parking that is completely unfair. Definitely a lot of things they need to fix. I was extremely excited to try this hotel out and it is those few little things that will make it to where I will never return...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was super excited to visit the Luminary Hotel as this was my first REAL do nothing but relax vacation in years. I researched a lot of places and the restaurants and the interior decor intrigued me. Plus it was near the water. That being said, I was very disappointed that I was unable to use my Marriott Suite upgrades. I don't plan to take another vacation so I kinda feel like that was wasted, and had I known, I might have chosen to go to another hotel or even a different city. There were two of us and a baby and it was a bit cramped. And now those will expire... smh.
The hotel is lovely! I love the modern trendy elements, and the overall look and feel is very hip and cool yet still classy. The main seafood restaurant was undergoing repairs so I chose not to eat there as I didn't like the fact that during the day they kept the glasses and plates on the table while the contractors were working. But the ambiance I am sure is wonderful at night. Ella Mai's had super kind and friendly servers! I felt appreciated. I was disappointed with the overall taste of the food, and as it turned out it was because they use the egg mix for scrambled eggs. So I requested real eggs and it was much better the next day. And definitely get cheese in your grits.
Onto the staff... The first day the man at the reception was nice. I wish he would have given me my two bottles of water though because I didn't realize they were free and I ended up using the ones in the minibar. It should be automatic that they check and see your status and give you your welcome items. There was a woman at the front desk at approximately 10 AM on 9/4. I was waiting for my car from the valet and she was at the desk on the computer for a good 10 minutes. I decided to ask her for some help since it was super slow. She told me to hold on and continued to work on her computer at the reception desk. After about 3 minutes I thought, "now this is rude." But I continued to wait. Finally, after 5 minutes my car arrived so I told her, I will come back. She said, I can do it but just hang on a minute. I said that's okay, I thought it was slow right now, but obviously not. She STILL did not stop what she was doing (at the RECEPTION desk?) to help a customer. I don't know her nationality, but she looked either Hispanic or AAPI and had medium-length hair. Later that afternoon I asked the new receptionist for assistance and she was great.
Valet, is overall lazy, and either talking or on their phones. They don't help with doors, bags, or anything. Just hand you your keys and it's DIY.
The pool is VERY small, and they had no towels. Two guests called for towels. When the person brought the towels out I smiled and said "Hello" and "Thank you" and she just ignored me... This place needs new staff to match the beautiful location.
Highlights:
The room was IMPECCABLE! I don't know if this is how housekeeping cleans on a regular basis or if it was because I had a baby. But that bathroom and room smelled like it was FULLY disinfected, EVERY SINGLE DAY. Kudos!!! Give them a RAISE! It was the cleanest room I have ever stayed in.
Lastly, Angie and the security guard who worked at 4 AM on 5/5 were outstanding! Very friendly, customer focused, and attentive. They deserve recognition for valuing the customer. I wavered between a 3 and a 4 but I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe property is centrally located to wonderful restaurants within walking distance! The location where our daughter's wedding was held was just a short drive away. The Edison and Ford winter homes / museum is a quick walk too! A short synopsis about my hotel room. It was an ADA room. Not requested but was available upon arrival at 10:30am. It was a suite so it was a bit larger than a standard room. Next to the water and ice station and elevators but could not hear them in use. The window view was great. Looked over to the bridge and down on the pool. The things that did stand out to me where the following. . . Not worth complaining about but just be aware . . . The room is slightly loud in the evening at bedtime because of the bar across the street. The beat of the DJ can be felt and heard. The White Noise on Channel 203 was more odd than the real time noise. I put a pillow over my head and my husband never heard it. The lighting in the room is lacking. It is strictly mood lighting. Light switches on and off and nothing happened. Low level lighting with boutique type lamps. No overheads. Bring a night light. The electronic black out shades are wonderful for the night time to cut down on the outside noise. There are no dresser drawers! I had a nightstand next to my side of the bed. Small but I used it because we were there for 4 nights. My husband used a small drawer they have in the wardrobe/closet/armoire piece of furniture. Speaking of which, the height of the hanging pole for clothing in this armoire is pretty short. Great for leisure or vacation but I had 2 long formal dresses, and I had to hang them either on the outside doors of the refreshment bar cabinet or on the shower curtain. Bring hangers from home, there are not enough for a couple especially when there are no dresser drawers. The bathroom does not have an air vent, so when you shower it is steamy. There is no drain stopper, so when my husband shaved, he had to have the water faucet run constantly while completing this task. The water pressure at the sink was so slow. We were on the 11th floor, I don't know if that has anything to do with it but the ADA shower (Large) had great pressure. The room was spacious, so my husband and I were not knocking into each other. Good seating area with couch and seats and a desk type area under the TV so I could take the stand mirror from the bathroom and apply my makeup on seated at the desk. I hope these bullets points give you a helpful snapshot! I would recommend this hotel to family and friends. We...
