I went back and forth between 4 stars and 5, ultimately deciding on 5 but I’ll explain the initial indecisiveness. First contact I had with Downtown House of Pizza was when my husband, son and I visited Downtown Fort Myers for the first time last week and ate at Ford’s Garage. We just moved to the area from Long Island, NY. We parked our truck and starting walking towards the restaurant when the sweet aroma of pizza filled my nose. I literally stopped in my tracks and looked at my family and said, “THAT smells like New York pizza!” I’ve noticed so many pizzerias in Florida claim to be “NY Style” but come on now... not even close. But this smell... I just KNEW it had to be the real deal. We almost changed our dinner plans but glad we didn’t that night because we ended up loving the experience and food at Ford’s Garage. So last night, after getting home from a weekend at Marco Island and not feeling like cooking, I mentioned Downtown House of Pizza and my guys were onboard. I placed the order online for an XL pie, half pepperoni and half mushroom to be picked up. Pizza was hot and ready when my son walked in to pick it up. They brought it home and when we opened the box, damned if it didn’t look just like the pizza from home! We each picked up a slice, bit into it and our faces lit up! This pizza was LEGIT! I can’t believe we found authentic NY style pizza after only 2 weeks living in FL. However... here is why I considered giving 4 stars. Remember how I mentioned I ordered half pepperoni, half mushroom? The pepperoni half was perfect. Had good amount of pepperoni slices. But out of the 4 slices of the 2nd half of the pizza, only 1 slice actually had mushrooms on it. ONE! The other 3 slices were plain. Or had the world’s smallest, most microscopic pieces of mushrooms on it. Womp womp. I was disappointed because I was really in the mood for mushrooms and only was able to enjoy that one slice. With that being said, hopefully you guys read my review and are more conscious of this going forward. Maybe it was really busy? I don’t know but either way I decided it wasn’t a true make or break and so opted to give the full 5 stars. I’m impressed and we will...
Read moreYo, check this—on May 23, 2025, I took my two mini-mes for a straight-up legendary dad-and-sons night in Downtown Fort Myers, kickin’ it off at the one and only Downtown House of Pizza (DHOP) on 1520 Hendry Street. This spot’s New York-style pizza slaps so hard, it’s like we’re back in Brooklyn, vibin’ on those classic slices. We grabbed a large cheese pizza, loaded with pepperoni, onions, green peppers, and anchovies—pure heat! That crust was snappin’ like a crisp drumbeat, super crunchy, and the cheese? Stretchy and soft, meltin’ like a smooth jazz solo. The seasonings were on point, with those anchovies droppin’ a bold, salty flex that had us all hyped. DHOP’s hand-tossed dough and fresh ingredients are next-level, makin’ every bite feel like a Brooklyn block party. The DHOP scene was poppin’—my boys were glued to the big window, watchin’ the pizza crew toss dough like street artists. The staff kept it real, quick, and friendly, settin’ the perfect vibe for our night. We chilled in the cozy dining area, swappin’ stories and laughs over our slices, feelin’ that New York soul. Gotta throw this out there—DHOP, y’all shippin’ in that New York water for this crust? ‘Cause this pizza’s got that Empire State magic! After crushin’ our pizza, we bounced to catch The Last Rodeo at a theater in Downtown Fort Myers, and man, what a banger! This movie was straight-up wholesome, all about life’s real moments—no woke liberal agendas, just pure storytelling. It felt good to kick back with my sons and soak in a flick that kept it real, leavin’ us inspired and connected. That combo of DHOP’s killer pizza and a solid, no-nonsense movie made for a night we’re still talkin’ about, stackin’ up memories like a dope playlist. Big shout-out to DHOP for slingin’ those authentic New York pies that make our dad-and-sons dates epic. We’re already plannin’...
Read moreI stopped by Downtown House of Pizza recently, and it completely lived up to the hype! I had a slice of their pepperoni pizza, and it was absolutely fantastic. The slice was massive, easily satisfying for a quick bite, and the quality was top-notch. The crust was perfect—crispy on the bottom with just the right amount of chewiness, and it held up well without being too heavy or too thin.
The sauce was delicious, with a rich, tangy flavor that complemented the toppings perfectly. The pepperoni was generously spread across the slice, cooked to perfection with slightly crispy edges that added an amazing texture and flavor. And of course, the cheese was gooey, melted just right, and had that perfect stretchiness you want in a great slice of pizza. Everything about it just worked—it’s clear they really know what they’re doing when it comes to crafting a great pizza.
The atmosphere at Downtown House of Pizza is equally impressive. It’s got that classic pizza joint vibe—casual, laid-back, and welcoming. Even though it was pretty busy when I stopped in, the staff was friendly and kept things moving efficiently. The energy of the place is great, with locals and visitors alike enjoying a slice and hanging out.
I also noticed their menu has a lot to offer beyond just pizza, including some incredible-looking specialties and other options I can’t wait to try. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite after a night out or looking for a relaxed spot to enjoy some great food, Downtown House of Pizza hits the mark.
If you’re in the area and love pizza, this is definitely a must-visit spot. I’ll definitely be coming back soon—next time, I might have to try a whole pie or explore more of their menu....
