I have been a patron of the Rep for several years buying season tickets. Some of the shows were very good some alright, but I always went because I liked the venue and wanted support them. I never complained until now, and it’s about the staff because of how my situation was handled. I had tickets to what I thought was their post-season production of Midnight Catechism. I had seen the show last year, really liked it and was looking forward to seeing the new one this year. I bought my tickets as soon as they were available thinking that it was Rep production. Unfortunately I became extremely ill before we were to go. When I realized that I just was too ill to sit through the performance I called to exchange the tickets, I was told that I needed to give them 72 hrs. notice, and even if I had given them 72 hrs, I might not have been able to do the exchange because it was not a Rep production. FRT advertised it when we at the theatre & through email. They sold the tickets, took the payment, and gave us the requested seats. However, I was told by the head of the ticket department that they had no control over the tickets. The day before when I finally got to speak to a person in the box office, I was told that I had 3 choices, gift the tickets, go to the show or. he left that up to my imagination which was lose the $80.00. The head of the ticket office also told me that on my email receipt, it stated that this was not a FRT production. When I got a receipt, I didn't think I should have had to read the fine print; at no time was it ever indicated hat this was not their production. Most people check date, cost and seats, and I’m one of them. I am extremely disgusted not just at the disappointment of not seeing the show, but the indifference of the staff that made no attempt to try and...
Read moreFor years I have considered going to see a lot of play in the historic theater downtown Fort Myers but for some reason I never did. This evening I finally got to see a live performance of To kill a mockingbird and it was awesome. I really wasn't quite sure what to expect for a local production but the acting was great and all of the set pieces were very well put together.
You can really make an evening of it because you can grab dinner at one of the great restaurants downtown and then walk over to your show for assigned seats. It's really awesome as well that the theater has parking for free included for all ticket holders in the parking lot directly across the street from the theater that opens an hour before showtime. This is great because we went on a Friday night and you either have to drive around forever looking for a parking space or pay to park in the garage and walk so this is A very nice bonus to make the night go a little smoother.
To be honest, the seats could have been more comfortable but they also could've been less comfortable. The total length of the performance was 2.5 hours including a 15 minute intermission So needless to say at times my butt was a little numb ... many of the chairs also squeaked so when people were adjusting from being uncomfortable you could hear some of the noises throughout the theater.
I'm really glad that we have added another great option for our date nights and it seems like there are all kinds of productions from dramas to comedies and everything in between so I'm sure we will get to see all kinds of place in the future.
I would highly suggest...
Read moreI have watched shows at Florida rep for a very long time now. MOST conservatories never fail to disappoint! I've watched a few summer intensives, and last night I came to watch footloose. I was hoping this would be an amazing show, as I loved the original footloose. before you read this section of the review, I want you to know I am not one of those "angry reviewers". I'm giving my sincere opinion and feeback. It seemed like the cast was casted more on their ages. It seemed like a lot of older girls. The key characters were missing the talent. Now I understand that this is an older show, but the characters should be casted on talent! I won't mention who to save embarrassment, but some of the girls who sang the songs couldnt sing very well or were extremely loud. Loud in an overdramatic way. Theatre you're supposed to be loud, but this was a screaming song loud. As I said, the cast was definitely based on the girls ages. I saw some boys and girls in ensemble that could've fulfilled the key character roles much better than the older kids had. I understand you don't want to put younger kids in the principal roles, but some of those principal's should've been in ensemble regardless of their age!!! Please don't take this as offense, I was in theatre myself for a long time. I'm just very disappointed in how this was casted. Maybe because they're all new staff? I...
