River View Park is a scenic urban park stretching along the East bank of the Kentucky River in downtown Frankfort, Kentucky. It's located a short distance upstream (South) of historic Lock and Dam #4. This portion of the river is navigable downstream to the Ohio River and points beyond during summer and fall. For more information about navigation contact the Kentucky River Authority.
This a rather large park offering many features. The park is located on the historic site of Frank's Ford, from which the name of the town, Frankfort, is believed to have originated. Various informational signs depict local history and significant features of the park.
The park offers opportunities for walking, running, swimming, fishing, picnics, nature appreciation, relaxation and outdoor activities. It features a large floating dock providing moorage for numerous vessels. There are open grass covered areas and large mature trees.
No athletic fields and no playground equipment are provided. The park is not lighted and is closed to the public during darkness.
Dogs are permitted, with the requirement that their owners clean up after them.
Ample paved parking is free.
A portable toilet on site was not maintained and was not usable when we visited in late February, 2018.
Facilities include paved paths, numerous benches, picnic tables, cooking grills and trash recepticles.
The entire park is wheelchair accessible.
PLEASE BE AWARE, THE RIVER CAN BE DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY FOR YOUNG CHILDREN! The park includes the river bank. The bank is steep in places and can be slippery. River currents can be swift and turbulent. No lifeguards or flotation devices are provided.
The river may rise quickly without warning, especially when substantial rainfall occurs upstream. During periods of high water the park may be partially or completely inundated and unsafe for any use.

A fairly large metal awning with picnic tables, located in the parking lot has FREE WiFi hotspot! Great idea. There are 2 portable bathrooms. There are stairs leading to a semi- covered platform. From there you can take the smooth concrete walkway down the other side to get to the Kentucky river. The wide, paved pathway follows the river. Several artist structures, picnic tables, and plaques with Frankfort's history lines the walkway. The river was alive with jet ski's & boaters in the rain. I didn't stay long due to the rain. It was a pleasant surprise for an ...

It's definitely not something I would personally plan a weekend to go see but maybe it's worth a visit if you're from out of town and just want to see Frankfort a little bit.
It's usually really quiet and peaceful and I would say it's a excellent place to include in a jog or a early morning walk. There's also some artwork painted alongside some of the walls and some art pieces in...
