I took my son here to walk the Lake and see the ducks, like my mother took me almost 40yrs ago along the same footpath.
It looks a LOT better than it did then; and I immediately fell in love with it back then for what it was. The mud, goose poop, pond scum from poor water circulation is virtually gone today, and I no longer am harassed (scary when you're nearly their height, lol) by hungry or nesting geese.
My 3yr old LOVED it!! We didn't even make it to the adjacent Baker Park on his first trip to Culler's Lake. We were too busy wanting to swim (he's used to hopping in farm ponds and hillside streams, so explaining to the boy that there are city rules against even Momas swimming in Culler Lake...but wow, it is enticing, for a nature lover, to want to swim out to the luminous water fountains there. As a diversion, I took him across the footbridge and waded us carefully into Carrol Creek to collect clam shells and pebbles. A group of ducks came within feet of us in the water... the drum circle my good friend often leads was in full spirits echoing ancient song to almost the ridge line, creating a splendid environment of 5pm sunshine on the Lake with a heartbeat.

The city and East and South of it just need more roads for all the new developments, so please look for oncoming traffic and peds/bikes when you're backing out of your spot along the main park road)
Also, the playground behind the band shell seats now has MUCH safer equipment than it did in the early 90's! (Incase it's been that long for you too, lol) I do kind of miss the geese...
Read moreGreat little lake that is well taken care of by the city. I think they drained it 3-4 years ago and did some major work on it. There is a great walking path around the lake with plenty of well maintained park benches. Lot’s of ducks call the pond home which is fun and enjoyable to watch. However, there can be quite a bit of duck poo on the sidewalk....so watch out for that. The pond is also full of fish. Mostly Bluegill but there are also a few small Largemouth Bass and plenty of...

Sitting next to sleeping ducks, has a way of calming your nerves..and gives you a chance to, forget that you are still in...
