Update* 7/30/2022
My family and I came back!
The staff was friendly and helpful. It's cool to actually see the history of what I read back in school. It's one thing to read it and be bored with it, lol.
It's another thing to see the history in person. We watched the movie 1st, then walked through the exhibits before walking around outside.
To see the damage and carnage that was left behind in the movie was crazy. To learn that 1000 soldiers died per hour during the Civil War is crazy. To walk in soldier after soldier just to meet your demise is crazy.
The visitor center was cool, and can't wait to check out more history in the surrounding areas and the rest of Fredericksburg!

It wasn’t crowded and best of all it everything was free . A chance to learn about how the world thought and acted upon is never a disappointment . I couldn’t visit the cemetery for obvious reasons but I could feel a sense of pain and pride soldiers endured back then as a veteran myself who can relate to hardships . 10/10 recommended park to...
Read moreUnless you take the tour, there really is not much to see on the self-paced tour; however, there are information placards along the trail. Much of the battlefield is now a residential area.
We visited this location in 2006 and took the tour. We recently stopped again in 2025, and not much has changed, so we just walked along the trail ourselves without taking the tour in the heat.
It appeared that the grounds were being taken care of, and there were a lot of people walking around.
We took our time and pursued our own interests. We wanted to go back and focus more on the sunken road this time.
If you are in Fredericksburg, you need to add this location as a stop so that you can find out the history about the battles and...
