Very Disappointed with Rude Treatment Despite Being a Paying Member
Iâve been a Planet Fitness member at the \$21.99/month Black Card level, and I had a very disappointing experience this week that left me feeling embarrassed and disrespected.
I visited the gym with my sister-in-law, who also has a Black Card membership. When I scanned in with my app, the front desk worker informed me that my debit card on file was expired and that I would need to update it. Despite the card being expired, Planet Fitness has continued to successfully charge my checking account every month, so my membership was fully paid for.
The employee allowed me to enter âthis time,â but shortly after I began walking to the machines, he loudly called my name across the gym and told me to return to the front desk. He informed me that his coworker told him I could not be allowed in and that I had to leave. The way he handled the situation was unnecessarily loud and rude, and I felt publicly embarrassed.
I asked if I could just check in as my sister-in-lawâs guest since we both have Black Card memberships. While I was eventually allowed in under that method, I was surprised and disappointed that the worker didnât offer this option to begin with. Instead, it felt like my suggestion annoyed him.
I understand that having an up-to-date secondary form of payment is part of the policy, but Planet Fitness still charged me for my membership through my checking account. Denying me access to the gym, even temporarily, when youâve already accepted my payment, feels like a breach of contract. You canât collect payment and then deny serviceâespecially not in such an unprofessional and disrespectful manner.
I left feeling disrespected and humiliated, and I believe I should have filed a formal grievance over how this situation was handled. I hope Planet Fitness takes this feedback seriously and ensures staff are better trained to handle these situations with more tact, respect,...

The amount that it cost to make a membership matters nothing the fact that someone canât counsel when theyâre trying to get out of a membership means everything. Eric who is the front desk attendant has given me the runaround for over a month in regards to canceling my membership. I was initially told that I can go to any location to cancel but I couldnât do it over the phone. Then I go to a new location only to be told that I have to go to the location that Iâve been signed up with to cancel my membership. Mind you I have two memberships for planet fitness. So then I go to a new location they informed me that only the location I signed that we can cancel me so the lady was nice enough to take time to contact that location to receive an email for me to counsel. I sent the email and then called the location back once again Iâll-experienced Eric answers the phone. Iâm asking him direct questions as far as how long does it take for my email to receive a response for the cancellation process to begin. He gives me the runaround and tells me that I will receive a confirmation email saying that it was received which is not what I asked. So I asked to speak with a manager someone who is more qualified to help me regarding my questions or concerns he tells me that the manager is unavailable and will be gone for an hour and that I will need to call back to reach the manager. Not whatâs your phone number let me leave a message for him to return your call or anything to resolve the issue or concern that a customer, a still paying customer has. I really feel like this child is playing with me and my coins and I donât appreciate it. He makes a bad look for all of the planet fitness locations. I travel for work and I work in a special field for the state of California. But I will never book a membership at planet...
Read moreIt's open 24 hours. The only opportunity for me to hit the gym is in the wee hours of the morning lol so it's great that they are open all the time. There's not a lot of people there when I go, which suits me fine. But even in the daytime when there ARE people there, there's plenty of machines and space. Plus it's a judgement-free zone and I feel like they stick to that. They offer classes and stuff and you can get set up for workouts with a personal trainer, which is cool if you're not sure how to proceed or want to target specific areas. The machines all have clear instructions how to use them and what muscle groups are being worked, complete with pictures. It's clean and there are stations with cleaning spray and paper towels to wipe down the machines if you get them all sweaty or if you're germphobic (is that a word?). The staff that I met is really nice and cool and welcoming, especially the young man who works the night shift. There is a drinking fountain with cold water where you can also refill your water bottles (it has a dispenser for that specifically). They also offer drinks and snacks for purchase. They offer some cool extras like the total body something or other (sorry haven't used that yet, but I hear it's dope), and hydro-massage tables and chairs (my personal fave). Also free Tootsie rolls when you finish your work out. How sweet is that? And I think they do free bagels and pizza once a week, even. Oh yeah, there are also free weights and exersize balls and all sorts of other fitness equipment. There is also an app you can get on your phone that has great info. Very affordable membership...
