On & Poppin Popcorn Shop — Attraction in Fruit Cove

Popcorn flavors are amazing. I have been a fan since the Normandy location and then right in the middle of the mall. I tell everyone to go try On & Poppin, because the flavors are so yummy.

I recently went to grab my favorite flavors from the location in the food court. The cashier was helping my friend and the owner helped the people behind me. My friend paid for hers, the people behind me were directed to the cashier to pay, cashier took them instead of me. The owner then went to take the customer behind me and when I said I was next, I knew what I wanted, the owner was kind of off-putting in his response of brushing me off, saying that I was there with my friend, who had an entire seperate order, and that the cashier would take my order, and took the order of the person behind me. That response, that was directed at me very loudly, felt condescending and rude.

There were new customers that had gotten excited because I kept telling them the popcorn was delicious, who saw that interaction of me getting dismissed, had decided against getting more popcorn.

I haven't had a bad experience in all the times I have come to get popcorn. It was just today that the tone of the response was kind of upsetting.

I went in just before Christmas (12/23) to buy a number of tubs for family gifts. I wanted it fresh so I drove from the east Arlington area to the Avenues to pick it up. I was sadly notified that they no longer had 3 flavor tubs just these plastic jugs with a Christmas sticker. I was told the popcorn was made the day before and was not done on site but brought in in big tubs. I watched as the young lady filled 2 of my 4 tubs with the Chicago mix using no gloves. Then proceeded to make the mix using 2 types of popcorn, again no gloves, and then fill my last 2 tubs...no gloves. She handled 2 customers and money before me and then handled my order. Finally, the pricing was insane and the young lady could not explain the pricing. It appeared that I was charged 25.00 for a 1 gallon plastic jug and could have purchased a 5 gallon bag for 39.99. While this made no sense, the young lady's explanation was worse; "my boss says don't pay attention to the pricing on the wall, I am just to go buy the pricing as it rings up on the register".

I am tempted to call in the health department to monitor the poor quality and even poorer handling. I will never return nor would I recommend it. Too bad I waited too long to...

I was really looking forward to trying this popcorn shop, especially after walking a long distance through the mall—8 months pregnant! I’ve been craving popcorn!!! Unfortunately, my experience left me disappointed. As a nurse, I take hand hygiene seriously, and I was very concerned to see the server place her bare fingers inside the popcorn bag with no gloves on. That’s simply unsanitary and not something I expected from a food service establishment. Homegirl had popcorn rolling off of her fingers and into the bag.

My husband noticed it too and even tapped my leg—so it definitely wasn’t just me. I went ahead and paid for the popcorn and brought it home, but I can’t even enjoy it knowing how it had been handled.

I hope management takes this feedback seriously and implements better hygiene practices moving forward. Something as simple as wearing gloves can make a big difference in...
