You've listed some contagious diseases commonly found among homeless populations. These conditions are often linked to:
Poor sanitation and hygiene Limited access to healthcare Overcrowding in shelters Substance abuse Malnutrition
Here's a brief overview of each disease:
HIV (6.2-35%): Human Immunodeficiency Virus, potentially leading to AIDS.
Hepatitis B (17-30%): Liver infection, potentially causing chronic liver disease.
Hepatitis C (12-30%): Liver infection, often asymptomatic but potentially chronic.
Tuberculosis (1.2-6.8%): Bacterial infection affecting lungs, potentially spreading to others.
Scabies (3.8-56%): Skin infestation by mites, causing intense itching.
Body lice (7-22%): Parasites living on human bodies, spreading diseases.
Bartonella quintana (2-30%): Louse-borne disease causing fever, headache, and rash.
Healthcare professionals and outreach organizations working with homeless populations should:

Read moreFullerton Public library is one that is rarely "out of a book" when needed. They have a FT Librarian on staff. Thanks to Alisha for today. The library is officially open. Visits are limited to 30 minutes. Do bring mask while keeping a distance of 6 ft. or more. Do use the self checkout machine as I found them to be in working order. Holds can be placed on book for pick up from library employee (no entry needed).
Children's library on the east side and see if you can locate "Spiderman or the Ram." Safe location and donations can be placed at box located at entry. Security and FPD keep all calm---despite homeless or those dire circumstances. Opening is happening slowly and the improvements in this city are obvious to me. Was an ethereal day during my last visit. Baseball practice was underway and Tabebuia tree was in full blossom.
Easy returns via drop-box or go-online to renew. Library cards are issued free and donate in the box at the entry. Wonderful three (3) level library. Purell sanitizer was on hand and my book was ready for pick up. New blue landfill and recycling containers are...
Read moreThe building is nice, but the staff has been rude, their policies are unorganized and the people are loud. They are not very organized and always send me fine notices weeks after I return the books. I always have to call them and tell them that I turned in the books weeks ago so shouldn’t getting a notice. Also, I get having A fine for an overdue book, but $5 PER book?!? Do you know how many books children check out? A LOT. I have two kids and they both want AT LEAST 5 books each. No one answers the phones there and if you leave a message with your phone number, no one calls you back. I called for three days in a row and finally someone answered the phone. It’s $5 fine PER book. So if you have two kids and they each want 5 books that’s $50 JUST for a...
