I recently considered booking Villa Del Sol for my wedding but decided against it due to several organizational shortcomings. Initially, I was excited about the venue (my parents even visited and food tasted), but the lack of a dedicated coordinator was a significant drawback. The coordinator, who also holds a full-time job, was notably unresponsive, taking nine days to provide a proposal which caused significant worry considering we are out of state. I felt as if I were nagging to get a proposal or get a question answered.
Moreover, there were critical communication errors, such as when I needed the venue's address to send payment; it was provided incompletely, missing the suite number (something I caught) which could have led to significant logistical issues.
My attempts to communicate directly with Villa Del Sol were largely unsuccessful, leaving me uncertain about how to proceed or whom to address my concerns to (hence this review). Yes I even spoke to Dunlap Property group when I was trying to get ahold of the suite number for Villa Del Sol.
Given these experiences, I felt compelled to look elsewhere for a venue where clear and timely communication is prioritized. I hope Villa Del Sol will address these issues to improve future guests'...
Read moreOriginally known as the California Hotel (hence the large painted "California"), this Spanish-style building was erected in 1922. Mr Chapman (the Chapman Avenue guy) was the biggest funder of the hotel pledging $25,000 to make the hotel the best in the State.
In the 1960s the hotel was remodeled. It lost much of it's old size and grandeur, but gained the single-story building of shops along Harbor. This building enclosed the courtyard making the building seem like an old Spanish fort.
In the early 90s it was remodeled again, this time mostly to be retrofitted with all that earthquake safety stuff.
The Wife and I ate one time at The Cellar. The waitstaff was extremely professional and attentive. It was rather embarrassing. I had the foie gras (sp?), it was perfectly-cooked and delectable, but when I found out exactly what it is and how it was made, my stomach started turning, as did my conscience. Neither has stopped, all this time later.
The British shop is so cool, but so expensive.
The best part is to go exploring all of the corridors and dead-ends. It has amused my son and...
Read moreThis review is for the Hildalgo restaurant regarding booking a wedding at the villa del sol. Apparently, you must book through one of the restaurants at the via del sol for wedding information. I was mainly interested in the Mexican restaurant coming from a Mexican background so I contacted the venue. They told me to contact Brianne for information. After contacting Brianne she informed me I had to contact Shannon. I emailed Shannon and did not receive a response. Brianne later emailed me asking if Shannon ever got back to me and I said no. A week later Shannon got back to me and I requested to see the venue in person. She still hasn’t responded and it’s been almost two weeks. Other venues have been quick to respond and less of a headache so we ended up going somewhere else but if you’re looking for someone to respond in less than a week look for a different spot. The other restaurants were quick to respond so it’s not really the venue just Hidalgos . Hopefully they get that sorted out. I read someone else had a similar experience so might be a...
