This place RUINED the birthday brunch!
Full story on Y E L P: Ruined the Birthday!
A minute later, the âchefâ comes storming to our table!! There was no introduction on his behalf or greeting, just pointed directly at me, verbally raising his voice:
âI specifically told you that you cannot bring the cake!â in an arrogant manner. âThat cake cannot be on the table and you need to remove it NOW! Take it outside as long as itâs not in here!â All while thereâs another big party sitting near us, just awkwardly looking at us. We were honestly thrown off, that we were expecting a âlol jk!â We all looked at each other confused and questioned each other; âdid that really happen?â Our mood quickly shifted, didnât feel welcomed at all or just not comfortable anymore. Seconds later, the restaurant manager approached us right away, Not sure if he noticed the aggressive chef at our table or if the hostess reported it, but he came by to apologize on the chefs behalf. Went over their policy, moved us to a bigger table, allowed us to keep the cake on the table as long as it was in the box, reiterated that the cake cannot be eaten on the premises. The restaurant manager also familiar with the chef, acknowledged he shouldnât have approached us like that.
The server then approached us, greeted us warmly, took our orders. A couple of us ordered a flight of margaritas, they were ok. The food was surprisingly good, except that the tortilla chips were cold on the chilaquiles (we didnât want to say anything, didnât know if that chef was the one making our food, we were over him) As we finish our meals, the server then brought out a slice of cake and sung Happy Birthday.
We still didnât know what to do with the cake that we brought in. Eat out in the parking lot? Stop at a store to buy utensils and sing in the parking structure? Luckily our service provided us with to-go boxes and utensils. So we figured we can just use that for the cake.
As we closed out the bill at Lagos, we noticed a small detail. The bill had an 18% gratuity that was added, that was not mentioned to us prior or during the service. on the menu it says 15% gratuity added for 7 or MORE guests!! We are all in the service industry, and would have met or increased the gratuity, but after everything that we went through the 15%...
Read moreHad high hopes for this place but for what you get- it's way overpriced. It was already a problem with our reservation having to wait in a lobby with about 6 other couples just standing there all wondering the same thing.. where is the host? Who do we speak to, to check in for our reservation?? Someone finally came over and had us seated and she mentioned to us "sorry, the manager right there gets stressed out when there's too many people in the lobby." When we got seated, our server Frank Calderon C. took our drink orders and I said id like a guava margarita (I said this in Spanish) he corrected me and said oh it's actually guava ( in English accent). I was confused because.. isn't that what I said???? Anyway then when our food came, my food as well as my mothers came COLD. I mentioned to Frank that my food was cold and he just stood there looking at me as if I was lying about it being cold? Why would I lie about it being cold? So I said I mean if you wanna stick a finger in there & check? He said it's fine I'll change it. Now this rubbed me the wrong way because why make me feel as if I lied about the temp of the food I'm paying for?? Simple should've just promptly offer to swap out the dish & not stare at me like if I'm lying? Now lastly... the bill. We waited so long for the bill that we had what looked like maybe the section lead check on us and ask 2x if everything was okay & we told him we're still waiting for bill. He went to go find the server & when Frank finally came back... he gave us our tab & left then about 15 min later, comes back & gives us someone else's tab and said we didnt pay?? Now we're all looking at him like???? That's not our tab. Our tab is right here we're paying cash that's someone else's table.. Frank again was lost & confused and left with both tabs. Add another 10-15 min and finally brings the receipt. For the price of everything on the menu, you'd expect stellar service & warm food. Would not recommend. Only good for a quick drink and off to the next...
Read moreLocated right across the Fullerton Train Station Parking, Lagos Mexican Cuisine isn't your run-of-the-mill Mexican joint; it's a culinary journey that starts from the moment you lay eyes on its elegant exterior. Step inside, and you're immediately transported to a realm where Mexican cuisine takes a stylish twist. From the tastefully chosen materials to the kitchen gadgets that gleam like treasures, and even the impeccably dressed servers, Lagos sets a distinctive tone. And can we talk about their washroom? It's got that 5-star hotel vibe, making even the bathroom break an experience.
Now, let's get to the main event: the food. The Tulum Tropic cocktail is a delightful opening act for your meal, setting the stage for what's to come. The flautas, accompanied by their exquisite sauce, soar above the competition, leaving my usual abuela-ran spot in the dust. The Nayarit Mango Salad orchestrates a perfect symphony of sourness, saltiness, and sweetness, proving that salads can be showstoppers too. The Lagos Gold chicken, while lacking actual gold sprinkles (bummer), is a masterpiece for chicken enthusiasts, a dish that must not be missed.
Yet, every story has its blemishes, and Lagos is no exception. Desserts, my friends, didn't quite hit the mark. The pudding was an indulgence overload; they could've easily halved the serving and slipped in another round of those heavenly churros. As for the flan, it was a tad dry but compact and sweet, aligning with my personal preferences.
In summary, Lagos is a must-visit, not just for the delectable dishes, but for the entire experience it offers. It's where Mexican cuisine gets a classy makeover, where every bite carries a hint of elegance, and where even the bathroom break feels like a scene from a luxury hotel. So, go ahead, indulge in the flavors, savor the ambiance, and embark on a culinary journey that's a cut...
