Bible Versions
We just got home from seeing The Chosen Season 4, episodes 4, 5, & 6. A few years ago, someone gave us a Season 1 DVD. We watched an episode and could not get connected with it. It was good, but difficult to understand. A year later we were invited to a Bible study on Season 2. While in the middle of the multi-week Bible study, we decided we would try again from the beginning. We binge watched until we caught up with where we were in the Bible study.
Since we got caught up, we have been anxious to see more when the new seasons and episodes are released. Something that made the difference for us was that we started watching with closed captions turned on. Even though The Chosen is shown in English, with dialects and accents, it is sometimes difficult to pick up everything they are saying. The actors, directors, and producers have done a fantastic job of showing us more of the human side of Jesus and His disciples.
This past week Melanie and I were speaking with some strangers in a restaurant that happened to be Christians. They invited us to visit their church and told us they only used the King James version of the Bible. I asked them if they had seen The Chosen. They told us they heard of it but had not seen it. I explained that it was a series that told the stories of the life of Jesus and His Chosen disciples. I explained that it was embellished scriptures showing a human side of Godâs Son that is difficult to see from the scriptures. They told us if it wasn't a pure King James version they werenât likely to see it.
We know not every word in the script is not in many versions of the Bible. Unless someone is simply reading the Bible to someone else, no matter what version, then they are embellishing the version to make it easier to understand. If we were to get real with versions of the Bible, unless we are reading the original scrolls, we are getting an embellished version. Since we donât know Hebrew, or Aramaic, or Greek, then things have been changed from their original form.
Just today we heard a sermon on the Hebrew word for âassembly.â The word is ekklesia. It was used to describe a gathering of people. It came about before churches existed. It described a group of people, not a building or place where they gathered. Ekklesia was later translated to the word âchurchâ because the German word âKircheâ sounds like the word church.
Hereâs what Iâm trying to say. If something helps you better understand the Bible and you become a stronger Christian from it, use it to get closer to God. Check multiple versions of the Bible and read them to compare one version against another. Most of us donât speak the way things are written in the verses of a King James Bible. If you can read and understand the way it is written in a King James version (KJV) that is great for you but not everyone. I personally use the New Living Translation (NLT). I often check to see how a verse is stated in the King James version to compare them, especially if something does not make sense to me.
The Chosen series is changing my life. It should be seen by everyone, Christian or not. As a Christian, it is supercharging my walk with Jesus. It is helping me to understand the human side of the Son of God. It is teaching me to try to be a better Christian tomorrow than I was today by seeing the lessons Jesus taught His followers. It reinforces that I am also chosen to share the love of God with others as He loves us. I am still a sinner, but a forgiven sinner. Look for The Chosen in Movie Theaters or the Angel...
Read moreVery disappointed in the extremely poor customer service this evening by Tiffany of Customer Service. Our first date night without the kids and we experienced blunder after blunder. Purchasing tickets and snacks took forever although there were only 2 customers in line. At 8:13PM we were finally able to request to purchase tickets for a 7:50PM show. Staff struggled to complete a cash payment transaction. Trying to be patient as staff again struggled to count the change returned to us was difficult to watch. Nevertheless we recieved our tickets and were pointed to theater #9. After sitting down for less than 15 minutes the credits were running across the screen, we were directed to and sold tickets to the wrong showing (6:40PM show that ended at ~8:30PM). In attempting to explain this to staff we were refused a cash refund because providing the receipt with the purchase time, tickets sold and type of tender wasn't enough, we needed to provide both ticket stubs. After going back to the theater room and locating one of the stubs (we had the other) we returned and made complaint about the process. Staff member Tiffany became increasingly dismissive as we voiced the number of hiccups that occurred, the long process of staff to correct the issue and overall the poor service and lack of concern by Customer Service. Tiffany repeatedly stated that she really shouldn't work at the theater and deal with complaining customers, she began taunting us and moments later she stated that she was going to have a nervous breakdown, grasping her head and face and repeatedly making the same comment... Another staff member, though seemingly untrained, stepped in for Tiffany who continued having what appeared to be a tantrum and yelling that she shouldn't work at the theater amongst other comments about her job, but this staff member needed to completely start the already long, escalated conversation over again regarding the refund. The staff that sold us the incorrect tickets appeared sympathetic, while Customer Service staff Tiffany and another young lady, seemed to be offended that we requested a refund because of the blunder. Not a single apology with what was supposed to be the kick off of a new date night ritual once a month. As we finally received a refund, staff member Tiffany stopped ranting about her mental health crisis and began filming us with what appeared to be her personal cell phone without our consent. This was an extremely uncomfortable situation as I was fearful of the sporadic behavior she was displaying and of her mental health. The two female staff members in customer service were difficult. Upon exiting there was a kind young staff member who attempted to help deescalate, which we were appreciatively of. Overall what was supposed to be an easy date night turned into just an emotionally draining experience. I was very fearful of Tiffany and her growing lack of ability to control herself. Just makes me emotionally overwhelmed to think of being discarded, berated and...
Read moreThe movie was awesome and the young man out front was great. He did his best to help me out. My spouse & I asked about the movie subscription & if we had time to sign up & still catch the movie in time. He wanted to make sure he gave us the right answer so he went and double checked with another staff member who confirmed that we were good and should be able to use the subscription immediately. Well, apparently you have to use it within 20 min of the movie starting and even though we asked well before, we missed the window by the sweet kid at the box office asking. When he realized his mistake, he was sweet & apologized and suggested we speak to the manager as he suggested our movie of choice was empty we should be seated anyway since the app/ subscription did not work now. So, HERE is where my review actually begins. TIM, the supposed manager at Regal has about as much customer service and people skills as a wooden spoon or a brick wall on a sunny day. He did not greet us, ask us what the problem was, or ask how he could help. Just looked at me and my wife and said " it's not working" when he attempted to use my QR code. Well, obviously if I am at the management area and not speaking to the teenager that should be getting your salary. I can only infer that he was only completely incapable of helping which makes no sense as I can imagine being a manager anywhere is hard work and would take some skill, but the only other option is for me to assume that he didn't want to help us because we didn't look like his everyday traditional couple. He literally just stared at my wife and didn't even speak to us. Regal should be ashamed of his behavior. If he was having a bad night, he should have allowed someone else to help us, because he didn't even try nor care to. I have already contacted regal corporate as he still made us pay for two more tickets after we just enrolled in the yearly subscriptions. After 20 years going to Butler Regal, Tim has been the most rude individual I have ever encountered in...
