Very disappointing. When we arrived the front door was locked with a sign indicating guests to call a number to check in. Called the number. Mailbox was full. My husband wandered to the back and found the back door was open and came through the inn to unlock the front door for me. No one around to greet us. Finally located a person cleaning a room upstairs. She called the manager who came out to greet us sometime later. We mentioned the her voicemail box is full. Response was that it often happens.|We stayed in the Loft of the carriage house. The accommodations matched the online photos. There are a number of maintenance items that need to be addressed: front door deadbolt needs replacing - used once, had difficulty getting our key to work, light near front door is burned out, we could only get wall heat/cool unit to work, baseboard heating didn't work, dirty cup left in dishwasher, wall clock above fridge needs batteries, bathroom floor drain between sink and toilet was emitting a foul smell (covered with a wet washcloth), beautiful tub but no bath salts or bubble bath provided, my husband had to adjust showerhead because it was loose and not working properly, the grounds need attention - weeds in the flower beds, the hot tub area was not pleasant (even though this is highly touted on their website) - empty beer cans and trash in the structure, water in the hot tub was disgusting, trash in the fireplace area (boxes and trash), empty beer case box in lawn, trash in flower beds, fence falling down, down trees and piles of yard waste. |The one breakfast we had was very delicious and the ambiance was very nice. For the cost of more than $640 for a two night stay, we expected more. When we checked out, again no one around so left the keys and a note sharing these things we found should be addressed for future guests comfort on the front desk. We have stayed at other Bed and Breakfasts and are always greeted by the owners and feel welcomed. This is definitely not the case here. Save your money and find another...
Read moreThis B&B needs LOTS of attention, mostly on the outside of the B&B. The grounds have really been neglected. Most of these repairs can easily be fixed. To me, it shows the owners really don't care about appearances. Solar lights were left broken so you could not see at night navigating 19 steps, outdoor chair cushion was left with stuffing spilling out, broken fence, rusted table with no chairs. Appearances are everything and this from the outside was not inviting. I just could not understand why they did not just remove the broken solar lights and chair cushion. It seems so easy. The lawn was FULL of weeds. Just a little weed killer would go a long way. Whomever cut the grass did not blow off the cut grass from the steps to the outer house. The inside of the main home was in better shape. It did seem to be clean but based on the outside I did not want to look to closely since we had to stay 2 nights. We stayed in the Blackhawk room and was discussed to see a melted ice cream bar in the freeze and towels that were rough and smelled musty. The faucet and shower head had calcium deposits on them. It is an easy clean but was not done. It was dangerous returning to our room at night and trying to navigate 19 dark steps to our room. We had to use the flashlight on our cell phone to see. |The positives: Miranda, the hostess was welcoming. The inside main home was decorated appropriately. Breakfast included bread options, fruit and a hot dish. The Blackhawk room a perfect temp for sleeping and very quiet.|I really hate to talk bad about a business, but prices are not cheap and if you want to be in the customer service business you need to do it right. I would assume you want your customers to feel as if they are at a safe and clean home. I am sorry to say that I would not suggest this...
Read moreThis B&B was our favorite of all the places we've stayed in Galena. It's such a beautiful home. Paulina our inn keeper was the best part about the stay. She greeted us at the door and gave us a tour of the home and went over the history of the building. She showed us to our room and answered all our questions with a smile. She was so hospitable and sweet. We stayed in the Jackson room located on the 2nd floor. We are both still thinking about how comfortable the bed was. Best night's sleep ever! The room was spacious and had it's own tub and walk in shower. The whole inn was immaculately clean. We were given two bottles of complimentary water and candy was left for us on the dresser. In the morning we went down for breakfast. Paulina greeted us and asked us if we'd like berry pancakes and sausage. When I tell you these pancakes were so good, they were like eating a slice of cake. When we complimented the pancakes, Paulina hand wrote the recipe down for us and instructions on how to make them. It was such a sweet thing for her to do. Now we can take a literal slice of galena home to share with the kids. At breakfast there was fresh coffee, juices, fresh fruits, bagels, and english muffins with butter and cream cheese set out. In addition Paulina was cooking made to order eggs, ham and cheese quiche, and the berry sheet pan pancakes. Everything was really well prepared and delicious. When it was time for check out, we stayed for a while just talking with Paulina. She is so down to earth and genuine. She was made to run an inn. Without her, the stay would not be as pleasant. The whole experience was just lovely and we are already planning our next...
