We moved to Gardena 20 years ago from what seems, now, like another planet. Thousands of miles from home and family, the JCI became community for our kids. They played Sansei softball and baseball, dressed up for summet matsuri, volunteered at the carnival each year, and still play judo with Gardena Judo Club.
We can say that the stones of every event, sport, and interaction at the JCI has helped build a small town childhood for both of them. On this little island of the JCI, "Ojiichan, obachan, nisan, and onesan" surround them in the midst of their epic Los Angeles life.
We are soooo grateful, and forever in debt to Gardena JCI. Mahalo....

They host periodic ikebana demonstrations and traditional tea ceremonies, all in a modest, peaceful setting. The koi pond is neat to wander by, and I overheard someone say it reminded them of Kyoto. Had to drive around quite a bit in search of parking in the neighborhood since we got there around lunchtime.
Lots of entertainment, games, food and even a beer garden. Enjoyed my time being one of the "locals" there. Well done....
