Over the last two or three decades, gig harbor has weathered badly. I would say over usage and a decline of original culture is to blame. Many of the artisans and vendors in the shops are being forced to move and look elsewhere or give up all together as their rents go up due to investors buying large blocks of the real estate and raising the rents to levels they cannot afford. The Gig Harbor Waterfront is an absolutely beautiful place to visit. So many adorable little shops, so much to do. It's a great town overall. It seems quite welcoming during the daytime although at night not quite so much. Very different than Port Townsend, where you can wander around the beaches at night and no body cares at all.
