Was excited to try Millville for our date night before hopping over to Galaxy Uptown for a movie, and decided to drive a little further to try it instead of Fondi. The restaurant is incredibly cute, and well designed. Large windows, good lighting, and an open concept so you can see the pizza oven.
We have our own pizza oven at home, so we like to try different small business pizza joints to get ideas and different variations for future creations.
Unfortunately, the experience left more to be desired. We sat down and were provided water immediately, but it took about 15 minutes to get our order in. The pizza, however, came out quite quick.
Once we got our pizza we could tell something was a bit off. We were surprised by the lack of much rise in the thin crust. The smell of the char also overwhelmed the smell of the pizza & toppings. Upon my first bite, the experience of the smell also matched the flavor profile of the pizza. It was pretty much all burnt on the bottom.
Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy a fair amount of char on a pizza. It really provides a great contrast for the sauce and cheese. This, however, was overcooked. So much so that it was hard to get the flavor of the sauce, cheese, and toppings. I had to separate the top from the bottom to get an idea of the sauce’s flavor profiles. The sauce was interesting! It is different from other pizzerias. Tasted like a hint of shallots and maybe bell peppers added into the tomatoes.
Overall, we were disappointed. Luckily the wine helped soften the experience. I see some other reviews mention overcooked and burnt crust. Hopefully the chef and/or owner takes this into account. We will...
Read moreI haven't tried the food here, and I never will. Last month I was parked outside of Millville in a space that was unmarked and had a bunch of huge garbage cans under a carport. No space for a car to go. It had the hash marks on the ground like it was a spot, and I checked the other side of the road that said "No Parking" on the ground very clearly, so I thought it was safe my spot was fine. Why would that be marked on one side of the street and not the other? A car also just pulled out of the spot when I arrived. I was gone about 90 minutes to eat at another spot, 10am on a Sunday morning. When I came back my car was gone. I was so confused. I then noticed there was a towing sign on the ground. I call the place and they haven't even gotten back yet, that's how close I was to getting to the car on time. They said Millvill towed me. I called Millville to see why and they said it's a delivery driver parking space. Well, there's no sign that says that, and your tow sign is on the ground under the carport. The guy who answered my call says to me "Oh yeah, we should probably hang that up." NO KIDDING. I pull into the tow place and my car had literally just arrived. It wasn't even off the truck yet. $720 later, I got my car back, with a note on my windshield that says "please don't park here, it's a delivery spot." Then post a sign that says that AND POST YOUR TOWING SIGN! Usually you give a note on a car for future reference, not when you're actually going to...

UPDATE BELOW!!!! Beautiful setting, gorgeous, very expensive hand made wood-fired pizza oven. Eloquent appetizers with huge portions and good beer. BUT.....
Why the crappy review? The pizza is the reason you would come, in fact pizza is in the name. Unfortunately, as a local pizza aficionado with roots from Brooklyn, having reviewed close to 20 "top" pizza joints in western WA alone, the pizza was the most bland I had ever had, with close to no sauce or cheese, with the little sauce having no flavor. I was very, very disappointed because I have heard so much about Millville. TOP #1 worst gourmet pizzas I have come across.
However, It looked like there may have been a new guy being trained, so Ill relent and give them one more shot and possibly change this review.
UPDATE: If you want good pizza go to Fondi's. It's now been over 2 years since my last review. In light of the review that I left I was never contacted or responded to, as some restaurant management is in the habit of doing. I decided to give these guys another try and ordered a "Seagem" pizza (standard margherita pizza with mozzarella, and basil, but with burrata cheese.) This pizza was just as bland and even overcooked as when I came 2 years ago. Cheese is fantastic but dough needs more salt and longer proof time, sauce needs more garlic and oregano. Great concept...
