It's been over a year and I feel that I'm okay to talk about it now. I rarely ever celebrate my birthday, last year we decided to try this spot because a friend was telling us how good the food was. My family and I sat down for dinner and was really enjoying the cabbage salsa and chips they brought out we quickly ate two small bowls and on the third one we dug in and happened to see a hair in it. I mentioned it to our our server and she took it to the back and had it inspected, she came back and apologized. We didn't ask for a replacement, we decided we already had enough salsa-it was delicious until we saw the hair. Dinner was served we each had our own plate of different foods, I didn't eat yet, my toddler needed a diaper change. I got back to the table after changing my son's diaper and my daughter told me there was a hair and a piece of plastic in her food. The server took it to be inspected and came back to let us know that it was the outside of the onion peel (it was the size of my palm-and no, it was not the onion peel it was a wrapper to something they used) but didn't acknowledge the hair. I didn't eat my food, I was so upset and didn't pack it to go either, they credited us for my daughter's meal and gave me a $16.00 certificate for my next meal (which, by the way I left on the table). The family said the food was good, everything tasted so authentic like it was home made but we won't...
Read moreExcellent place. The staff is always very friendly and nice. This place is run by a family, if I'm not mistaken, 6 out of 10 brothers and sisters working for the Mom and Pop. They've been doing it for 20 years. You can tell that they are loved by the locals, because they are familiar with everyone that comes in. We've been here at least 5 times, and have seen several of the same faces each time. Now, some local places, I feel, have a local cult fondness, simply because they're local, and that it. Not the food, not the service, and undeserved. This place deserves their accolades for their food, service, friendliness, and cleanliness.
Margaritas are good. Wifey is especially fond of the jalapeno margarita. Chips and salsa are great, and are also served with a bowl of beans that are pureed down to a sauce for dipping.
I would say that as far as mexican food goes, this is by far the best around. It seems that in the PNW, there are tons of mexican places, and none of them know what they're doing. I grew up in So Cal, where you can't have bad mexican food, because you'll go out of business. I've looked for several years to find a go-to, good quality mexican restaurant, and this is it.
Their Happy Hour fare is a good as their dinner menu, and most of the time we go for Happy Hour, and still come home with unfinished food. Beware of their Pueblito Burrito! It'll easily feed a...
Read moreA quaint and cozy place to eat across from the water in downtown Gig Harbor. Their food is a solid 3 star, offering huge portions at a reasonable price. My husband ordered the Pueblito Special and I ordered the Nachos with carne asada. The Pueblito Special came with a tamale, a chili relleno, and a deep fried chicken burrito. Both the tamale and burrito were under seasoned and quite bland. The chili Relleno was the best part of his meal that came with cotija cheese. Lots of it. My nachos were also a huge portion and I appreciated the amount of toppings that came on it. I was not impressed with the carne asada bites as they tasted bland and slightly old?
We also got margaritas, the kiwi and the pickle just for kicks. I don't recommend getting margaritas here as they were not that special. I couldn't tell what over powered what, the alcohol or the flavor. A good margarita in my opinion won't make you question.
I'm sorry to say we won't be back...
