Budget Inn Gladstone By OYO - Portland/Clackamas — Attraction in Gladstone

Upon checking into room 230, a maid was in the way, and was not doing anything important but listening to her headphones and pretending to not notice my father and I. A non-smoking room was requested but was given a smoking room with no explanation. The two Latino maids I interacted with were defiant at first by not following directions, did not understand English, or pretended not to just to be very annoying. I suspect that they are illegal aliens.

The toilet did not flush consistently requiring a guest to reattach the chain governing the drain operation. I fixed it after a half dozen tries but should not have to do that. This also shows the level of care, expertise, and/or resourcefulness of management to deal with such a problem.

The entire room needs dusting, and carpet needed vacuuming. The bathroom walls are filthy. An entertainment center takes priority over a kitchenette that was advertised. Plenty of room to store DVDs, CDs, and other electronics though. No LCD flat panel TV in this room as advertised.

The motel promotes extended stays with reduced rates, however, eating out is the primary option without a kitchenette. A small microwave is provided but microwaves do not cook food adequately and cause health problems in the long run. The refrigerator was clean but has a very small freezer, that really needs to be thawed out, causing many trips to the grocery store, and the door shelves are broken. The shower pressure is very inadequate, and the tub takes about 10 minutes to fill, which is rather absurd wouldn't you agree? Some of the electrical outlets do not work or have loose connections causing much frustration in today's high-tech world. The work/dining table wobbles resulting in counter-productivity and bothers neighbors.

On the bright side, there is plenty of space, the bed was clean and is comfortable. The A/C works well. On-site laundry is a plus, and a system is in place to maximize satisfaction. The Wi-Fi is a little slow but the signal is consistent. The owners here are more professional and approachable than the ones encountered at the Budget Inn near PDX airport.

The surrounding area has many popular stores such as Safeway, Starbucks, Dollar Tree, Walgreens, Walmart, and SuperCuts. Unfortunately, Bus 33 that travels up and down SE McLoughlin Blvd. has inconsistent service with limited stops north of the motel. :-(( I would stay here again if I had to but would rather stay somewhere else that is not as remote...

First the good: the woman at the front desk was willing to help with EVERYTHING, which is a lot to say for seedy motels such as this. The room had a good sized - older flat screen that my 3 year old (who had never watched tv before) was entranced by. The hotel we were staying at the next day had a check-in time of 3pm. The woman working the desk was understanding, and let us stay until 1pm....it is now only 8am--sleep time was 6 hours-- and my 3yo is already whining to leave (as he has the entire time). Gonna be a LONG day. Now the bad. And there was a lot, unfortunately, as this little place has a lot of potential. •We requested a non-smoking room, and it smelled like the tenant before us had chain smoked til checkout the same day. I'm not sure why motels try to "rotate" smoking and non....the smell saturated everything we owned and gave me a horrible headache. •I pulled back the comforter and immediately saw many, many dry long hairs all over the pillows and bed. Gross. Then, inspecting further, noticed something like body oil or lube all over the sheets, making a very obvious wet shiny film all over the bed. GROSS. The manager changed the sheets and apologized over and over for the housekeeper, "Mary", or " Maria"? •The bed is, by no exaggeration, like sleeping on a boxspring. My back/neck/hips/everything hurt after 6 hours of troubled sleep. •Kids that lived on the "weekly living" side asked for our change at the vending machine, and knocked on our door several times. Did not answer, but felt sorry for all the families, and dogs stuck in this situation for more than 1 night. Owner mentioned the east side is all "long-term" housing. •Last but not least, very VERY dirty room. Long pubes on the bathroom floor around toilet. Fridge had loose tobacco on the bottom, freezer is the height of a kid's-size drink. The door and walls were COVERED with dirty finger prints, drink spills on the walls, drops of pee on the toilet seat, and hotel-soap that had black mold spots on the paper wrapping. Even the glass "shell" soap dish was scummy. Felt like we stayed in a smoker's bedroom by accident, and they were kicked out with no notice. I have stayed in most of the seedy motels in Portland and Eugene/Springfield area, and this one reigns as...

I would never ever stay here. We had booked a 2-night stay on the Oyo platform, and when we arrived, I should have seen the red flags. The lobby smelled like stale cigarettes, and there were rates posted for longer terms (weekly and monthly) at the hotel, but I thought, hey, it's cheap and we got a non-smoking room, so surely it won't smell like this, right? WRONG. When we walked into our room, the smell of cigarettes was soooooo overwhelming, stronger than out in the hallway where people were actively smoking. We went to put our things in a drawer, but found no drawers in the room. The nightstand used to have drawers, but they had been removed. The flooring was taped back together with what appeared to be duct tape, and when my husband went to use the toilet, it almost fell on its side because it wasn't properly bolted to the floor. He also mentioned that the shower looked like it was actively leaking and had broken shower components. The resulting water damage probably caused some of the issues above. We talked to the lobby staff, and they said Oh, we'll send someone over to fix it, The manager came over and proceeded to take the toilet off and then just left us in the room. We decided we wouldn't stay, and when I went and talked to the ​staff, they were confused about why we were leaving, even knowing our troubles. We pointed out the glaringly obvious, and that the pictures online didn't even match what we got, and she started to argue with me over it. Then they agreed they would allow a full refund (since we were in the room for less than 20 minutes), but we had to call OYO to cancel it since it was booked through them. I called OYO the same day, they promised a quick refund, but 2 weeks later, it still hasn't shown on my card as a refund. I'm disputing the charges with my credit card, but it's been such a headache, I wish I had not stayed as soon as I went into the lobby. Photos on yelp as proof of condition of room.

Update: (7/21/25) After many calls with OYO, the budget inn, and my credit card company: OYO denied the refund claiming that we stayed the entire length of our reservation- however my credit card company stuck by me realized the reality of the situation. I was refunded my cost and will never stay at an OYO...
