R J Jewelry & Loan Co — Attraction in Glendale Heights

I stopped by this pawn shop/jewelry loan place on my lunch break today. I’m always on the lookout for good tool or gaming deals and hadn’t been inside this place. Security greeted me at the door. Friendly guy.

Well it turned out to be a bit of a waste of time but it was interesting that’s for sure! The place looked like a hoarder’s den. Everything in the place was at least 20 years old. The whole place looked like it was filled with pallet returns, you know those places that sell pallets of like Amazon or Walmart returns, just tons of random old items, with little rhyme or reason as to how they are shelved. I can’t express enough how messy this place was, I’m honestly surprised there’s no fire hazards or fire codes being broken with the cluttered array of boxes covering every surface.

Aside from pairs of sneakers in the display cases in center, nothing looked appealing or as if it had been moved in many years, except for two decent looking motorcycles.

I’ve never seen a place that didn’t have like laptops or even jewelry, all this one had was a huge collection of like clay figurines in display cases that could barely be seen because of the stacks of random boxes blocking them from view. There was some jewelry in the middle but looked old and untouched for quite some time. Some posters(possibly autographed) on walls with price tags but not able to view because of clusters of boxes.

I stop at quite a few places like this in the Chicagoland area and can say that I’ve never been to one quite like this. I think someone in the staff must have been buying those pallets to stock the store but there’s just so much of it and little means to find anything you could possibly be looking for.

Worth a stop I suppose, if not for anything than to see the state of the store. To be fair the place seems to have good reviews for jewelry repair. Maybe that’s...

I have found my own personal Jeweler. I live in PA and send everything to RJ. I first found them on Ebay I think two years ago. Since finding them I not only have purchased a number of items from them I have sent items to them for repair or sizing. Not only is the quality amazing but I trust them with everything right down to repairing my mothers rings. They are quick to answer all your questions even if the answer is not what you expected, meaning they tell the truth. I have purchased many items from local stores in the past and never have gotten the service and personalization that I get with RJ. I have also sent friends to them that needed sizing or repairs. Nothing will ever come close to my experiences with them. I will never again shop any place else even if it means convenience. Roughly 18 years or so ago I needed to sell all my jewelry and other valuable items so I came here. After that life got better for me so I didn't have a need to come back. One day about a month ago I was in desperate need of cash as the car broke down. I had forgotten about this little place & ended up elsewhere which less than a week after that I ended up back here after over 18 years. This man & his family & employees are super nice, very honest, and they always have a friendly smile waiting to welcome you no matter how long in between visits. I was there today 4/12/14 and while waiting for my turn it was just a nice friendly atmosphere. If I ever have a need again I will for sure come back here because I appreciate the fair price I was given and the amount of respect that I was treated with by everyone.
