My review of Sahuaro Ranch Park: You need to experience this place your self. Things you should know about this park. It is Huge with 2 separate parking lots. For the peacocks, orchards, and reserved pavilions and grills the parking lot next to the Glendale Historical Society off of 59th Ave is the best. If you want the dog park, sports fields, one of the 60 unreserved picnic and grill stations and play equipment the parking lot that can only be entered from 63rd Avenue.
The center of this park has a mini amphitheater but soil erosion has covered it's floor with mud. There are restroom buildings on each half of the park. Water fountains work. The covered playground has the newest equipment and is wood chipped. The older play ground is sun exposed and sand filled.
The many of the picnic tables in in pairs of 'Y' formations branching off the main walking path around this area. I love that many families had brought their own shade tents to put over the non reserved picnic tables.
I loved that the dog park had play equipment just for the dogs and that the water fountain had a working water station with bowl and bucket. There was also a separate dog play area for little dogs. Dog park closed on Tuesday.
The path leading to the Historical Society buildings is an enchanting adventure with many picnic and benches for quiet nooks of contemplation. The presence of the peacocks are apart of...
Read moreThis park is a real gem. It really was a ranch back in the day so there are many things to see relating to the operation of the ranch. They do a good job of having placards and signs describing different things, but if you go during operating hours, you can tour or at least go into the original buildings and hear someone give you the history. As if that wasn't enough to make this worthwhile, the park has about 40 peacocks and peahens along with numerous hickens and rabbits walking freely about. We took two of our grandkids and we told them about the peacocks, but warned them that we might not see any as we hadn't been to the park in years. To our surprise and their delight, we saw many of the birds. The kids even collected some peacock feathers which they were very happy to get. They even took them to school for show and tell.
The park has plenty of picnic tables, pavilions and a great playground. They also have sand volleyball courts. The park has many citrus trees from which you are allowed to pick the fruit! 👍😋 All the trees and grass provide ample shale which is nice when it's a hot day.
All In all, one of the best parks in the...
Read moreThe park itself is very nice, and the rose garden is beautiful. Lots of room for casually walking around and taking it at our own pace. We did walk up to the different buildings on the premises and looked into the windows (doors were locked on most) and read the signs in front of them, early afternoon on a Sunday. Was surprised when we got to the actual main house, which was open, and had someone at a table in front of the building, and someone giving a tour inside. We were told that someone had shown up a few minutes ahead of us asking about a wedding, so they were getting a tour. We weren't allowed to join the tour a few minutes in, even though we weren't 20 feet from them when standing at the front door. We were told there were no self-guided tours, even though I picked up a pamphlet entitled "main house self-guided tour". We were told to wait for her to finish with the group, but couldn't say how long a tour was, how long we might wait, nothing. After 20 minutes of standing in the first room and the hallway, we finally walked away, disappointed with how these volunteers dictated their own terms for the building. Same...
