At Stacy Boulevard Waterfront Park stands the impressive bronze statue of the fisherman in his oilskins at the helm. He honors the 5,360 brave fishermen who sailed from this harbor to the fishing grounds in search of cod and other fish and who lost their lives in violent storms, or their vessel being run down by steamers in the shipping lanes, or tragically, their dory lost in the fog. While standing here, close your eyes and imagine the harbor filled with these two-masted workhorse schooners, some returning with their holds filled, others departing, never to return again to family or loved ones. Consider, in a single storm in 1862, 15 schooners were lost with their crews of 120 men. The semi-circular design has granite blocks with bronze plaques that lists the names of those fishermen. If you’ve come this far, head on up to Rockport and admire Motif #1. Not far away is a moored lobster boat, her name,...

The fishermen’s memorial is a great tribute to people who have been lost at sea. It spans for 4 centuries and details all who were lost with their names upon the memorial. Also the survivors memorial is right next to The fishermen’s memorial. You will see nice shots of the bay and many boats that will enter the river by a manned drawbridge. Also right up the street is a medieval castle with self and scheduled tours. (Hammond. Castle),Truly a great...

The statue is so stoic looking out to sea. It's a memorial for all the people that have lost their lives to the ocean. We were here for the St Peters Fiesta and this is where they held the blessing of the fleet. It was pretty cool the priest came out gave his prayer and blessed all the boats. It's a nice park with a little Boardwalk right on the water very scenic. If you're in the area it's a good location to stop by...
