TL;DR - People who hang out at this store are great, but wouldn't recommend this place due to the limited stock in store. This also extends to the owner being unprofessional, rude, aggressive, and down right oppressive if you don't do things their way.
When I first came here to buy some stuff it was exciting, but overwhelming. The owner (Jon) seemed very friendly at first, and helped me save money on making wasteful purchases. However, overtime my experience there deteriorated the more I came there.
So the owner at first seemed friendly, but the longer you stay there then they become an entirely different person. Firstly they can be very aggressive and oppressive with both their statements, mannerisms, and methods of doing things. For example they don't like people cursing in there store which ironically they do despite that. I understand it's a family friendly store, but practice what you preach if you don't want people cursing at your store. To which my case I curse a lot, and people can be offended with which is true. Although there was an incident in where I was playing another guy, and they were rolling a lot of dices to which in surprised said "Jesus!" to which to them was no a good thing. So after today when I came to the store for a game I got pulled out front of their store and told not to do that again, or I will be kicked out of the store. They didn't even let me defend myself and simply acted as a judge, jury, and executioner. I wanted to defend myself but was given no room to do so, to which made me feel really frustrated afterwards. My mood there was ruined and I tried to keep the cursing to a minimal, but it just made me more frustrated when I slipped up to which made it worst when I hear them cursing too.
Now this leads me to them being very unprofessional when it comes to running their store. I was trying to buy a codex for another faction simply to which in response they asked me to place my hand outward, then lightly slapped my hand saying no. That felt off for me but thought they were trying to be funny, and yet even after that felt uncomfortable with it. Then they spend way too much time chatting with friends who come to the store, and if your playing with another person it's hard to hear them or at least in my case. They say the store is family friendly which yeah it makes sense to be a friendly to people visiting the store. However, the shop is still a place of business and should remember that they aren't at their house, but running a business too. This can lead them to being too engaged with conversations and forgetting people who are trying to do business there too. I was trying to pick up an online order and some paints, but because they were chatting with a friend of theirs I waited over half-an-hour to even get their attention. Although after today I can say that this too can be dangerous to the store's security as well. After packing up for the day and leaving I saw unsecured and out in the open a large amount of money not in the safe, but just out there. They could have put it away, but since they were too engaged in their conversation and might have forgotten or were getting to it. Yet this is a MAJOR SECURITY RISK AND LOSS OF BUSINESS TOO. I worked security in the past and did asset protection too as well, and from my past experience that is a major problem.
Now despite, they people who do hang out there are great. Some teach you about the game, some show your their models, and it can be a great time. However, with the owner there I rather...

What a journey it has been! Thanks to John my husband has amassed several armies and the knowledge on how to play them, gotten friends and joined events and felt welcomed in the community, something he has had trouble with at other stores.
For my self I have immensely enjoyed the painting and art side of things, the friendly banter between the regulars, lunches as a group and more importantly as a female felt looked out for and respected by the patrons and John.
I can not recommend this store enough for those looking to get into the hobby, no matter what age, gender or sexuality. Everyone is welcomed, and no one will judge.
Original.
Be warned that even if your not into the hobby John and his enthusiasm is very contagious! He has the patience of a saint and will take his time helping you decide if this is something that you might enjoy doing. Since it is a hobby that takes a bit of a budget this is a great thing so that you don't "waste your money" on something that you will put away two weeks from buying your first set.
The store is very well organized and the space is used well between gaming tables, show cases, painting areas and merchandise.
They are very open to beginners, and seem to thrive on teaching and watching people learn and share in...
Read moreThis place is more than just a game store. It's more, even than just a place to go and play a quick GW game of your choice. The best way I can describe it is like a game store that tried to emulate the Cheers sitcom vibe. There are often several people occupying hobby tables (Yes they have several tables to hobby!). Most are just talking about their days or helping others with painting, building, playing, etc. Registers Chinese in and or throughout the day. John, the manager knows just about everyone and wants to help everyone regardless of their spending capabilities. In addition, several people in the store will often greet regulars as they come in.
Don't know how to build, paint or play. Neither did I. The manager does classes and there are also several regulars often willing to help if you ask.
There are of course events almost always going on. The store always rotates between the core 40k and sigmar games, but there are also other events like necromunda, warcry, aelf on the shelf, paint of the month, and so much more.
So if you want to go where everyone knows your name, and they're always glad you came, head on down to the warhammer store in Goodyear and ask John for a rundown of the game and a...
