2025 Edit: They've raised the prices again, and still don't accept credit cards (come on, you can afford the 3 cents per processing request). The price is comparable to a matinee at Regal now.
Used to go to the Sun Theater to catch movies I wouldn't otherwise see- it consistently showed every major film that was in theaters about 3 weeks after they entered theaters whether they were big hits or stinkers, so it was a good excuse to check them out, but now they choose such strange movies. They seem to go out of their way to avoid showing a lot of movies that hit theaters save for a small handful. This place was a once a week event for me for years, and now I've gone maybe once or twice since the new owners as a result to the change of priority. It feels like this is often now used as an excuse to show christian movies that don't have wide release or so selective that there's only a small audience.
Many times the kids behind the counter that serve concessions have their friends come in and goof off, making the whole process incredibly slow, and the signage for movies is incorrect ("Fabulous Four" was shown as "Fantastic Four", "Venom: The Last Dance" is "Venom Last Stand", etc). There is just a complete lack of focus or care now.
They also still- after many years- do not accept credit cards. This isn't the 90s- the fees to accept credit cards are NOT that high- who cares if you miss out on 10 cents of your $10 concession sale! You can get a square account and triple your profits even with the expense, so unless you're evading taxes there is 0 reason to do "cash only".
In summary- it feels like whatever the previous owners felt were dooming this business are being done in spades now. Something I used to love is on a very big decline, and I...
Read moreThey need to improve the speed that movie patrons are admitted! The food line & ticket line are one in the same. No one at ticket window so movie goers have to wait in the food line to pay for a ticket. The line stretches down the sidewalk because you can’t enter the theater without going through the food line. It was better when you could buy a ticket at window and go find a seat without waiting. If you want food just get in line! There were only two employees at counter. The same person that rang up the orders also was in charge of drinks. So after collecting money you had to wait for employee to get drinks. A third person could have been getting drinks while the transaction was taking place & getting tickets. The popcorn person is able to stay busy on their own. This caused the movie to start late because they won’t start the show until the line empties. I sat by some people that had been waiting almost an hour. They came early to get a good seat & the movie started late. Poor management! Obviously they want you to make a purchase before they will start the show. The movie should start on time regardless of the popcorn line. If you want snacks then...
Read moreThe sun theater is a cinematic relic among the big box, big screen, tiered seating, beer serving ampha-monstrosities occupying unusable retail space.
1 movie - 1 time - 1 price ($2.00) = go have fun
Welcomed by a real human ticket giver and thier King Charles Terrier perched on its own seat you are ushered into a lobby filled with the smell of popcorn and dim lighting. Entry opens to an old time theater sporting the best of 1960's trimmings; deep burgundy walls, full height ceiling curtains, and clam shell flip up bolster seats that could swallow anyone under 25lbs.
Complete with local advertisements and short cartoon previews for the kids. Respect your neighbor and don't be late because they won't start the movie till the popcorn line is gone.
For $2.00 wether you like the movie or not; it's worth removing yourself from your ipad-iphone-youtube-facebook-tinder-bumble -antroid world and spend some quality time with someone you care about.
Remind yourself why you liked the movies as a child and go...
