Gordon Food Service Store — Attraction in Grand Rapids

I went in on July 28th at 1145 to grab lunch. They had one young Black cashier. She had a line all the way down to the side of the produce. Everyone in line to check out was POC, except for myself. A White woman walked up to customer service and she was immediately helped out. There were two White workers behind the desk. Not one of the two helped the cashier. They then called over the intercom for Jacob to help up front. I seen him get on the second register and figured he was going to help the young lady cashier. No! He immediately helped the White woman who was not in line to talk to her about ordering some ice. Not one worker helped the cashier. She was doing an amazing job btw!! She got every customer through the line. Shame on you Gordon foods for not jumping on the register to help your coworker. All I saw was a bunch of White people helping White people. Not a good look. Not sure if I visited on an off day, but i was underwhelmed by this place. I will say it is in a convenient area with plenty of parking in the back. The prices, however, were very high. I’m talking a 50% mark up on things like mac & cheese, a wheel of brie cheese, even pasta sauce. I would expect this from places like Martha’s, but even Bridge Street market has better prices. I did not see the guacamole Bar that everyone was talking about, they did have a salad bar and prepackaged guacamole. I also noticed that the selection of packaged meat was scarce, and all they had behind their fresh counter was seafood. They did have crab legs & many premade sides but again the price was ridiculous. There was not any chicken or cuts of beef behind the poultry counter. They also do not sell any alcohol, there is a liquor store next-door but I thought they would have bulk wine. I probably...

I live closeby, so I shop here more than anywhere else. The deli and meat counter here WAS the best around, but they got rid of about half of it and replaced it with boring sandwich bread and chips. They still have an ok selection of packaged and deli meats, some deli salads, cheese, and olives. The produce section is ok and where I buy from the most, but there are often empty areas where things are out of stock. I love the huge bags of pre-chopped lettuce! Always check the expiration dates in the dairy section, because there are always expired goods (there are tubs of expired cottage cheese still on the shelf almost every time I'm there).
