TO REACH THE DOG PARK: Do not park at the school, but at the park. English is weird, isn't it? It's only for Green Tree residents. RFID entry only.
REVIEW:
This park is a great spot to train for your first 5k, or just to go for a leisurely stroll. We live on Mt. Washington, so it's nice to walk without having to walk around cars parked on the sidewalk. The paths are paved (mostly) and Pittsburgh level (as opposed to actually level). Can be a bit crowded if there are ball games or if the weather is suddenly nice. The entire loop (including gravel section) is pretty close to one half mile.
While it's clear there are no dogs allowed on the fields, the big sign will all the rules isn't really clear about dogs on the paths. The picture shows a person and a dog without a leash connecting them, in a red circle with a line through it. Does this mean no dogs, or just no off-leash dogs? Best not to risk it, in my opinion.
Ignore those saying it's impossible to reach the off-leash area without rule breaking; they are objectively wrong. Simply park in the designated lot for Green Tree Park, and not the one for the elementary school. There's a huge sign that says "Green Tree Park" on it (imagine that!), maybe 500 ft away from the school entrance towards 376, away from Giant Eagle. I come from the opposite direction, and I don't see how people missed this....
If you park in the correct lot, there's a trail at the back that leads directly to the off-leash area, but it is for Green Tree residents only. You need a key fob to open the gate. I've only ever seen 3-4 people in there with their dogs. Seems like a great spot if you...
Read moreNice park for walking. Plenty of parking spaces. Farmer's Market every Thursday during Spring/Summer. Dog park is NOT open to public. Rarely see any Greentree residents using it. Park includes 2 playgrounds, Dek Hockey rink, Baseball/Softball fields and a Soccer field. Not sure if the fields are intended for Greentree residents only like the dog park. I've seen people playing Cricket at the park multiple times which was pretty cool to watch. Point Park University's baseball field is located in the park. Sometimes you can see the team practice or even watch them play a game. The larger playground is located on school property, so it's closed to the public during school hours. Walking track is also closed to public around lunch time when school is in session, but I've seen people continue to use it. There's 2 sets of bathrooms, but only the lower set near the gazebo seems to be open all year long. Park is kept up nicely. Decent park for...
Read more3 miles from downtown Pittsburgh in Greentree borough. Very safe for all. Multiple baseball/softball fields for local use and also a couple for local colleges. Also a couple soccer areas a basketball court and a small playground. There is a asphalt walking trail that goes around mostly each/all areas. (At one of the fields it is gravel) Great safe place to walk which is mostly why I visit. They have a small farmers market (Open Seasonally) Thursday evening which is nice also. They have a nice fenced dog park for Greentree residents. I give it 5 stars for it's proximity to my home location. A 5 min drive. 👍 In addition, for it's safety and nice chill...
