Andrew Johnson Homestead — Attraction in Greeneville

Andrew Johnson, was the 17th President of the United States. Johnson became president after Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. The national park includes two of Johnson's homes, his tailor shop, and his grave site within the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery. The visitor center shows a 13.5 minute film about Johnson and his time in Greeneville. The one-story/one room tailor shop remains much as it was in Andrew Johnson's day. So much more than we expected. Be sure to see the Visitor Center for the orientation film, his original tailor shop, and a small museum of his presidency. The old homestead across the street covers early life in Greensville. The home where they moved in 1851 and returned to after his presidency remained in the family for 3 generations and contains mostly family owned furnishings so you get a good sense of family life in this period. One of the best historic tours we've ever taken! Began at the visitors center where you get your free ticket and time to meet at the historic home for guided tour. There is a 'must see' 13 minute video on the history of Andrew Johnson, which was excellent. We learned a lot and it was easy to follow.
