A tricky one to give an overall rating! First impressions are fabulous - superb location right in the centre of Greeneville; parking plentiful, and a very grand old building with lots of history. The carpet, furniture, etc is very old and one wouldn't want it to be updated and new, but in some areas it did look a bit tired. Our bedroom was lovely, very spacious, high ceilings and decor was in keeping with the building. Bathroom well equipped (shower over bath) but some grouting needed attention. Water supply was always good. Air conditioning was very loud so we didn't use it overnight, therefore it got very warm & stuffy (windows did not open - we were in Room 307). Maid service was excellent. There is a large outdoor terrace on the 2nd floor which was set-up for a wedding on the Saturday of our 4-night stay. Although we were able to go out there, it was not really set-up for guests to use to sit outside - I'm sure more could be made of the area ... A few tables, chairs and parasols maybe. Reception staff were pleasant but didn't ever put themselves out. Breakfast was by way of a $7 pp voucher which you could use in Catalyst coffee shop (within the building but a separate business). The coffee here (we had Cortado and Cappuccino) was fantastic, however the breakfast offerings were limited and I don't think $7 was quite enough (I had to pay a bit extra for the few things we had). Catalyst staff were delightful. Oh and as Catalyst are closed on Sundays, the hotel put "breakfast items" out in the lobby for guests - this was pitiful - muffins, and fig bars, oh and orange juice, that was it!!! We had dinner in the restaurant once and it was really good. Our Waiter, Cole, was very friendly and extremely helpful. Our biggest gripe with the General Morgan Hotel was that the bar shut at 9pm every night, so after 9 there was no communal area to have a drink and chat with other guests, which we usually love to do. We were left wondering what on earth people do after 9pm!!!! We were told about a bar a block away which apparently stays open until a very late 10pm (!), but when we ventured up there, there was a private party on! Even the Wedding guests weren't served after about 9, and there were still a fair few folk around. Also, the bar and restaurant were completely closed on Sundays, and we were planning on having another meal in there on our last night which happened to be a Sunday!!! In summary, a lovely hotel but they really need to address the bar timings and breakfast...
