I am 47 years old, and have been frequenting music stores since I was a teenager. I drove from Madison to the Greenfield Music Go Round to hopefully bring home an Ampeg 8x10 cabinet they had advertised online. My dream cabinet, the last piece of putting together my ultimate dream monster bass rig. I can honestly say that this was the single greatest experience I have ever had in a music store. The store is clean, organized and welcoming, full of shoppers and staff. I brought some old gear along in hopes of getting a bit of trade in credit towards my dream cabinet. I have traded in a ton of gear to stores over the years, and have learned to have realistic expectations on what I might get in trade. I came prepared for the worst - I am so used to snarky, grumpy guitar store staff looking down their nose at me that I've just come to expect it, but I was immediately disarmed by cool, kind, knowledgeable staff that actually seemed happy to deal with me. Everyone was so friendly that I was almost taken aback. It took them fifteen minutes to give me an offer that was about four times what I was expecting, and didn't amount to credit to help go towards my dream cab, it actually paid for the whole thing, even up, not to mention the aforementioned cabinet was listed at a price $200 cheaper than what it goes for anywhere else. As I loaded up my new cabinet into my van, I had to pinch myself. Did this all really just happen? Kindness and respect from store staff goes a long way. I will never forget this experience, getting this cabinet was a huge deal for me, and the Music Go Round staff made it all that much better just by being cool and fair and patient and...
Read moreGood range of instruments to choose from, cool staff, repair work seems well done. My only complaint are somewhat high prices, somewhat low ball offers for trade ins, and a weird communication protocol with the guitar tech.
I've brought in guitars with questions or asking for potential work, and rather than the guitar tech coming out (I'm sure he's busy tightening a screw, but still) an employee will play telephone between you two and go in his office, relay a message, then come out with an answer. And if you have a follow up question or want to discuss further, the employee has to then go back in the office and try to explain what I'm saying.
I've just had several experiences where it seemed like the employee didn't want to keep running back and forth and just left me with a "we don't know", when I could just get it over with in a 3 minute conversation with the professional actually doing the work. I don't wanna say they're unwilling to help, but somewhat unenthusiastic to really accommodate the customer. I'll probably bring future repairs somewhere else like Wade's, but here you can find some real nice used and rare gear.
Just check anything over very well before you commit, a lot of used guitars will probably need light work done which is probably another $50-100. Let's be honest it's used gear so there's probably a reason someone dumped it. Kind of sucks if you buy something, notice something fucky within a couple days, and need to bring it back to them to fix or return it. Great place to find cool stuff if you know what...
Read moreI went today to purchase a drum set that that they have had in their possession for over 7 months. 1st the drum set was located in their Kenosha store and they were not able to sell it. It then it was moved to the Greenfield store in the hopes to sell it. So far no sale of the drum set. This is probably due to the fact that it is well over priced. In the past I have purchased many items through Music Go Round, some of these items where not priced appropriately and I have offered cash for the item and a slight discount which the store agreed to. But today was not the case. I ask the clerk who helped me if I were to pay cash if I could get a slight discount. He said no, I then explained to him, If I were to pay full price for the item with my credit card, that the store could possibly lose 2 to 4 percent on the credit card fees and by me paying cash at a discounted price would end with the store making more money. He choose not to even listen or care about what I had to say or the fact that I am a repeat customer who lives over an hour away. The clerk was actually quit rude to me, but if you look at the other reviews, I guess this how they treat their customers. I think I'm done shopping here and strongly encourage others to do the same. Pictured is the set I was going to...
