Foschini Park is perhaps the oldest (its' existence is documented back to the 19th century) park in Hackensack. Originally part of the Oritani Athletic Grounds, it was deeded to the City of Hackensack in 1911-12, and named Riverside Park. In 1956, two years after his demise, the park was rededicated in memory of late Mayor and City Councilman Paul Foschini, who had served a combined 27 years in office. Mr Foschini had a tremendous love of sports, particularly baseball, and the park shows it. Ten fields dot the landscape of most of this park's 28 acres, with the showcase fields being Fields 5 & 7, the largest fields. I recall many afternoons and evenings enjoying the Hackensack Troasts of the legendary Metropolitan Baseball League as they faced top flight competition from all over North Jersey in what was clearly the best baseball league in the state. Nothing today quality wise can even come close to that league's level of talent. For those looking for something else, there is only a small playground area in the southwest side, and a small nature walk along the back end of the park with benches for relaxing. The City of Hackensack is in the process of building improvements onto Foschini Park and hopefully, they will make the park even more enjoyable...

Read moreThe park is on a beautiful point of land and quite good sized. Unfortunately it's been chopped up by baseball fields with fences so it's more of a rec field then anything else. Since the fences chop things up the park can't by used properly for a lot of other recreation - even soccer or other sports. It has a beautiful bike/running path on it's edge, which dead ends into the car lots on one end and the ice house on other.
On the plus side eagles use a dead tree in the northeast corner to watch for fish on the river.
Historically this was the home of boat clubs, ice skating ponds even back to Indian fish ponds.
It's not a bad park...it's just that it could be so much nicer if the paths connected to other sections in Hackensack and you could wander across most of the park instead of around the edges of ball fields. Let the kids chase a ball hit long once in awhile...give them...
