I really wanted to try West African food for quite some time now. It was hard to find place that served vegan versions of iconic dishes I wanted to try such as Jollof rice, egusi, and okra soup. This place offered it so I was willing to drive over an hour (my mistake). I placed my order through DoorDash. The flavor of the food was good but it was overcome by a disgusting dumpster smell. I don’t think this is normal. It tasted and smelled rotten, I couldn’t get over the dumpster smell and neither could my sister. It genuinely tasted like it was scraped out of the trash can. Jollof rice did not look authentic, looked like Taco Bell rice and texture was like it too. I genuinely think that this food was rotten. I asked my mom to smell it as well and she said it smells rotten too. This was disappointing as I was so excited and this place has seemingly good reviews. When I arrived it was located within a supermarket which was my surprise and didn’t look the cleanest, but I didn’t want to judge. Another con is that the dishes were very expensive. Ridiculously so for the quality and quantity of food. It shouldn’t cost nearly 30$ for one entree especially from a take out place. I hope one day I’ll be able to try this cuisine from a new place that offers vegan options. Wish I could get my money back. This situation is so unfortunate.

First I will like to say that I am not African by birth but I am a West Indian that knows and loves good tasting food with plenty flavor. I have been searching for a Ghanian restaurant close to where I work in Manhattan forever. I am not sure how new this spot is, but I am beyond excited it is here and I pray to stay. I ordered the Egusi with pounded yam for myself, Beef Stew for my boyfriend and stew chicken for my 7 year old. My boyfriend and my daughter destroyed his food together lol because she wanted the beef and not the chicken which she failed to mention. But she loved it, filled her up fast. The Egusi was so much I brought it home and just finished it for breakfast. The only disappointing thing for me was the kelewele. But that's not the fault of the restaurant. I only had Kelewele once before from a Ghanian restaurant in Queens and it was delicious, sweet and crunchy. However this one had too much ginger for me and was diced smaller. It was very overpowering and spicy. Now being that I am not Ghanian and I only had it once before, I don't know which Kelewele I had is the correct way. But for my tastebuds, I prefer the one without ginger. Even though I love Ginger, not on this one. But other than that everything was great and I will definitely be ordering from them more.

So I’ve been wanting to try egusi for a while. I was torn between coming here, or trying Asante’s Restaurant (which is in nearby Teaneck). I chose this restaurant because I saw that they had a combo plate available, which comes with egusi, curried chickpeas and cabbage, tomato marinated egg, collard greens, and a goat tomato stew with several pieces of ethiopian bread on the side. I really wanted to try the plantain fufu, but the woman working at the cashier advised that the Ethiopian bread that comes with the combo would be sufficient. She was right. I’m really glad that I went with this combo option because I got to try multiple dishes. To my surprise, the egusi soup was completely overshadowed by the deliciousness of the other dishes. I found myself gravitating more towards the goat tomato stew and the chickpea curry dish (vs the egusi). All of this came out to $30.91, which is worth it in my opinion. The name of what I ordered is called the “Non-Vegan Ethiopian Njera Combo”. Overall, I enjoyed this meal and experience, and would recommend it to anyone curious about trying African food.

I saw the reviews and thot this place was good. I ordered a tray of Egusi, Jollof rice and Chicken. The food was incredibly overpriced. I thought the portion wld make up for it but when I went to collect it, the trays were not full at all. Instead of a tray of fried or oven baked chicken, I was given a tray of small sliced cubes of white plain chicken in stew. When I tried to complain especially considering I had spent over $400, the madam that owns the place started gaslighting and arguing with me. Nonetheless, I delivered the food to the party that required it and first spoon taste of the soup was a hard bite of sand. The soup had so much sand, we ended up having to order another tray of Egusi from a different restaurant called Tasty which charged only half what we were charged at Voila Afrique. I would not recommend Viola Afrique at all. It was great mistake for me. Totally not worth it !!!! You can get bettet quality for far less.

Jst read their response to my review. Disgusted that Voila Afrique cannot own up to their faliures but instead lied that it was my birthday and I had been given 50% discount and a chance to taste the food. It was absolutely NOT my birthday and who would accept 50% discount for food filled with sand. Total disappointment. I don't for a moment believe any of these positive reviews here. They are most likely fake. I woulg give zero...
