The Grooming Cove Barber Shop — Attraction in Hasbrouck Heights

If i could give it negative stars i would. I rarely ever give reviews but this one was very much Necessary. I guess the one star would be the shop is actually cut and esthetically pleasing but that’s about it. Yesterday was our first time here my son needed a haircut for his Preschool pictures. He’s 4 yr old and has been getting haircuts since he was 4, i say this because he’s not one of those kids that moves a lot which can cause error. We had an appt with Emmanuel. My husband told him I’d like to you trim the top and sides a little bit (the top of his hair is curly) and then to fade all around. The barber asked my husband 3 times what did he want again first and English then in Spanish then went to his coworker and asked again what were we requesting to have done. Luckily we speak Spanish. After the third time i guess he finally understood. He grabs his scissors and takes a giant chunk out of the back of my son’s hair. Way more than we asked for! Such much hair he took out that it ruined my son’s entire look. At this point my husband and i are panicking this is not the look we asked for! And now we have no choice but to make it even in which Emmanuel didn’t know how to do! He starts working on the fade, blends both sides and leave the back unblended! A more experienced barber comes in to help because he could see we were visually unsatisfied with the service being done. The more experienced barber apologized and made the top at least even tried to blend the back but still not too well. It was just an extremely disappointing experience! Not to mention my son has picture day the next day! And now w we forever have memories of this place running my sons hair the day before his first picture day. on the way out the more experienced barber tells my husband we booked with a Intermediate barber and should have booked with a professional barber. Im sorry i thought i was going to a professional barber shop where all barbers know how to do their jobs! Long story short if you have a little boy with curly hair DO NOT COME HERE PLEASE save your sons hair like i wish i would have!

Lastly HE CHARGED ME $30 and the website clearly says for kids cuts its $25 no biggie $5 but i was overly charged for a service i did not like at all nor what! I never knew cutting a kids hair was...

I had a great experience with the barber Emmanuel who cut my hair—he was skilled, respectful, and genuinely a nice guy. I’m really happy with how my haircut turned out.

However, I have to mention something that left a bad taste. While I was in the chair, the barber next to us started talking to his client about my haircut, asking things like, “Is that a mullet?” and the client responded, “Maybe a burst fade,” to which the barber replied, “It’s something,” followed by both of them laughing.

That kind of behavior is incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful—especially in a service environment where clients should feel comfortable and confident. Everyone has their own style, and it’s not okay for a professional to mock someone else’s look, especially in front of others. It felt immature and out of line.

I’d come back for the barber who took care of me, but the shop as a whole should really address the kind of culture it wants to promote. Maybe stay away unless you like...

Having moved from PA to Rutherford Nj, in 2019 I needed a barber/ barber shop that keeps me looking crispy. I found everything at the Grooming Cove in Hasbrouck Heights!! My go to barber is Garen, thanks to him I’m crispy daily and never leave the seat unhappy. As for the rest of the barbers they all follow suit, talented friendly, clean, funny, and professional group of guys. Garen, Emir, Jacob, Leo and Mike will all have you walking outta the shop looking fresh! If you are close to Seacaucus don’t drive outta the way! Wilson, Damien and Pauly will Leave you looking just as good as the barbers at the Grooming cove Hasbrouck Heights shop. I’ve personally seen all these guys cut hair and have never seen someone leave the shop unhappy. I would get my hair cut by anyone of these guys!
