Oishi Sushi 223 boulevard — Restaurant in Hasbrouck Heights

For a long time, sushi was considered exotic and maybe a little scary. But now one can find it practically everywhere, even in the grocery store. Sushi is a Japanese dish referring to the sour flavor of the vinegared rice.

Translated from Japanese, meaning “looks beautifully flavored,” my partner and I decided to stop for a quick bite at this establishment situated on a busy Boulevard in Hasbrouck Heights.

Upon entering this clean and relaxed vibe as first-timers to Oishi Sushi, we had the entire place to ourselves and decided on a table by the window. They also have a small stool area in front of the sushi chefs.

Their extensive menu comprises a range of sushi rolls, sashimi, and bento boxes.

We opted for the Seaweed Salad, Avocado Roll, and Vegetable Lover Roll.

Food was excellent, presented well, and using the freshest quality ingredients. The Seaweed Salad was a tad salty; otherwise, everything tasted deliciously good. The price and portions were reasonable. The service was quick; the staff was friendly and courteous.

Don't use Uber Eats to order from here. They us their own delivery drivers so you cannot see where the driver is/how far away your food is. Didn't matter for us because the restaurant never started our order. After I placed my order the app said I should receive my food in 20-40 minutes. About an hour later the app said I should be receiving my food soon but it never came. I called the phone number of the restaurant and it took 4 tries to get someone on the phone. A hour and half after placing my order I finally got someone on the phone and they said they haven't even started my order yet. I would have expected a call from them if the order was going to be delayed this much and I would have cancelled even sooner. The food has been good here other times we have ordered but very disappointed with the customer service. Don't say it will be arriving in 20-40 minutes if you are that busy, call the customer and let them know...

My son, is a regular customer here, but tonight after a very long day at work, I didn’t feel like cooking—so I placed an order for pickup. Even though the restaurant was clearly busy, the staff was courteous and quick to help. There was a small mistake in the order that we didn’t notice until we got home, but when I called, they immediately took responsibility and made it right without hesitation.

Mia, the person who answered the phone, was incredibly kind and helpful—she truly went above and beyond to fix things and made sure I didn’t have to lift a finger after an exhausting day. The sushi itself was delicious and fresh, as always. I ordered two 3-roll specials, and every single roll was flavorful and perfectly prepared. The miso soup also had a rich, comforting flavor that hit the spot.
