flavor homei kitchen — Restaurant in Hasbrouck Heights

Been coming here forever (I mean over 30 years). The food is usually very good. As with any restaurant if you order for as long as I have you will have a bad experience once in awhile. It happens and you have to figure everyone has a night off. That being said I have yet to find another Chinese restaurant around this area that even comes close to their food. I have tried all of the local ones in case I need a back up and sadly, none match their food taste and quality.

I always pick up and have never had delivery so I can't really comment on that except to say HH is a small town and I have heard their delivery person is a bit (ahem) wild. The stories I have heard really make me wonder why they continue to employ him. Perhaps it's because it's a family run business and everyone always seems that have "that" cousin?? Does he have blackmail on the owner? I don't honestly know but I'll keep to picking up my orders.

All in all I love Ho Mei Kitchen. They take a no-nonse approach to Chinese food. No frills or special pizazz. Just honest to goodness great food, time and again.

Now, if I could just find a Chinese restaurant with a nice dining room for special nights out, that would be terrific. Sadly it seems all of those restaurants have gone the way of the dinosaur. :(

This is our go to Chinese food stop for family nights together and especially when we're looking go order vegetarian food.

No one makes the mixed vegetables dish as consistently and delicious as this place. It's our comfort food pick for days we don't have the energy to cook and don't want anything fancy. It's a simple dish that often ends up being overly cooked sappy vegetables, super oily or salty at most places. This place is just right, has a great combination of veggies, such as broccoli, mushrooms, Baby corn, carrots, and my favorite.. celery chunks. The sauce is just right. It's not overly salty, gunky, or riddled with oil spots. It hits the spot eveny time.

There are very few and rare places that get the simple dishes right like this one..

Food used to be a little better. Still pretty good. Would have given 4 stars. Delivery man is very rude and I eventually had enough. A place can be great, but having a delivery man ruin your appetite changes everything. Not sure why he is so unhappy, and I've never dealt with someone so rude for no apparent reason, and I work in retail, so that says something haha. First couple times I let it slide. Still tipped him well. After I think 3 more times (and after reading/hearing multiple similar stories from multiple customers) I tried to speak to the restaurant. Nothing came of it. Almost called the police the way he was acting on my door step the final night I ordered. Unsettling. Safe to say I don't order from this place anymore. I hope whatever makes the delivery man so miserable is fixed, or he finds something better...
