The farm tour was great! Introduced to all the growing stages of cacao. Sampled the ripe pods too! Lovely sustainable farm. (Wear shoes for walking in freshly cut wet grass - umbrella are provided if it's rainy). Our guide Ben was super knowledgeable and fun. Could really tell he is passionate about all things chocolate. The owner of Hawaiian Crown Chocolate, Tom, was also on hand. Gave us an even greater appreciation about the time and energy that goes into making delicious (and healthy) chocolate. The accompanying factory tour follows and is at the small shop in downtown Hilo (down the street from Two Ladies Confectionery). Tasted chocolate nibs and two versions of chocolate while learning more of the processing. Then into the shop itself to see and smell the last stages. Enjoy a 10% discount on purchases and the secret to unlocking a 5% non-expiring discount on future...

My husband and I went on the cacao tour and it was so educational and wonderful! We left with a deep appreciation of cacao cultivation and chocolate making. You’ll also get to sample different types of chocolate after the tour, which was a great bonus! The owner Tom and his staff are full of aloha and take pride in producing quality Hawaiian chocolate.

I bought a bunch of chocolate after the tour but ate them all, so I bought more online to have them shipped to me in California. Their shipping is incredibly fast—ordered on a Monday morning and it arrived by Tuesday early afternoon! I’m looking forward to gifting these to friends and family for the holidays!!

Looking forward to...

The farm tour with Master Mahi‘ai (farmer) Tom so much fun! We learned so much. Tom is the best Hawaiian Agroforest farmer/tour guide around. He has a degree in Agriculture from UH, and has a wealth of knowledge to share. We saw his 12 acre farm with yellow coconuts, ulu- bread fruit, apple bananas, açaí palms and a variety is cacao trees. We sampled the fresh beans from the cacao pods, then went to his daughter's store to see the cacao roasting process, and sample all the delicious chocolate products. Beware- you will want to buy at least 1 of everything. The gelato and hot chocolate are great too.

Plan on a full 2 hours of the most delicious experience on a farm...

This little store is a gem in Hilo! You can get delicious, locally-made chocolate, chocolate-covered nuts, and try samples of chocolate! It doesn't get more local than this: You can see the chocolate being made right behind the counter. Plus, the cacao coms from a farm right outside of Hilo. I highly recommend taking the tour at the farm; for $30 per person, it is definitely worth it to see the entire cacao process and learn about sustainable farming. I was impressed by the owner/manager's knowledge and enjoyed learning about Hawaii-grown produce.

This cacao farm tour was one of my favorite experiences on our vacation!! It was so interesting to listen and watch him explain the cacao process from tree to chocolate bar!! You can tell he loves what he does and he was super knowledgeable about his organic farming practices. The Tour finished in Hilo to watch the final processing into chocolate bars at their kitchen and retail store . I made delicious cacao ice tea out of the cacao shells and they have lots of different chocolate bar flavors !! Go! You will love the tour and the chocolate !!🍫
