DO NOT COME HERE if you’re ASIAN. The young lady working at the front on Tuesday around 4 PM was extremely rude. When my husband and I walked in, there was a group tasting samples on the left, and a girl waiting for her ice cream on the right. I stood at the counter to look at the flavors while waiting. The staff member was “clearly busy”, but several minutes went by and she never once greeted us or even acknowledged our presence. After she finally finished rolling the ice cream and checking out the girl on the right, I said hi — but instead of looking at me, she immediately turned to the group on the left with a big smile and started chatting with them, as if my husband and I, the only two Asians in the shop — were invisible. I don’t care how the ice cream tastes, but Hicoco Hawaiian Gelato seriously needs to improve its staff training. No matter someone’s race or gender, everyone deserves the same level of service. Too bad. I usually leave a tip for takeout, but not only did she lose that tip, I’ll also be warning other Asians visiting Hilo to stay away from this place.

This is the best gelato I have ever had in my life. The apple pie was amazing and tasted like an apple crumble over vanilla ice cream, the red velvet tasted like cake and was perfect with the waffle cone which stayed warm the whole time and never cracked! The fact this is vegan and gluten free is a welcomed bonus and very inclusive of everyone. The kids play area was such a nice touch and made the experience way bette for my family. You feel the magic in this place!

What the great stop and fantastic find! 100% vegan, organic and gluten free... What? It was incredible and there selection of flavors, amazing! The two owners who are usually there were so incredibly welcoming, friendly and informative. But, honestly the best part may have been there two gorgeous white Siberian Huskies Nicoco and Yoko! This is a must stop in Hilo if you're graving something sweet... Try the affogato!

Really good vegan ice cream, inventive flavors, cool vibes and the waffle cones are made to order. We got two cones and the price was around $12 which imo is a good deal for (what I would consider is) gormet ice cream (the cones are made FRESH, like come on)

Staff was friendly, the kid drawing with chalk in the main lobby area had a really rad picture of a milkshake with spider legs.

Note to non-vegans: as a non-vegan myself, don't come here and expect this to be the same as regular ice cream. It is made with different ingredients. It will not be exactly the same. If you're not ready to try something different, don't come here and be disappointed and drop a 1...

This is simply the best ice cream of any kind on this island, and it happens to be vegan. However, you don't have to be a vegan to enjoy this amazing coconut based gelato. Do yourself a favor and give it a try, nothing compares. I think they could open a shop in Italy and still have a loyal following in the land of gelato. Any chocolate flavor is worth exploring, and they have some other great things like the espresso chip, the mint chip, and the creamy coconut. My favorite is the chocolate trifecta, but I'm a big fan of all their chocolate flavors. They're homemade waffle cones are also...
