While visiting Highlands, NC last weekend, I took my niece and nephew to the Biological Center, and we had a wonderful time!

We walked there from The Park On Main (where we were staying), not really sure what we would find, and we were so impressed! Not only is the Nature Center well maintained and educational, staffed by extremely friendly and well-informed people, but the grounds are downright magical!

From the moss garden with the Winnie The Pooh house to the Botanical Gardens, it was all peaceful, beautiful, and perfectly maintained, and I could have spent the whole day wandering in that fairy land or sitting on one of the many benches just soaking up all the calming nature.

If you're anywhere near this place, I highly suggest you make the effort to go. You...

A delightful botanical garden highlighting the diverse native plants of the area. Included are wonderful bog gardens with many carnivorous species and other bog plants. Also, they feature informative lectures and themed walks. Some walks are at night. We went last year on a night-time spider walk. It was fascinating. I've seen them advertise for bat and moth walks. The many trails make it a great place to walk. Short and...

Beautiful trails with expertly maintained gardens, trails, and facilities. The garden has a wild feel to it though the trails are easily accessible and enjoyable to walk or hike. The lake offers great views, and stopping by the Nature Center only improves the experience.
