Courtyard by Marriott Portland Hillsboro — Attraction in Hillsboro

The room was great, the bed was great, staff was kind and helpful, I really liked this place.

But let's talk about maintenance. The timer for the hot tub appears to have gone missing and instead of purchasing any of the likely thousands of generic knobs from ebay or Amazon, there is a pair of rusty pliers nearby to turn the metal nub that the knob once attached to.

Were the pliers rusty to begin with? Or have they rusted due to being in a damp environment for so long? WHO KNOWS!!Either way, management, maintenance, whomever this may concern, Google hot tub knob or something. Add it to your cart. Or better yet, buy it now.

2 doors were out of service. One was an external door near an elevator. However, another one was the door to the pool. Due to the layout of the building, this means you have to go allllllllllllllllll the way around to the other door on the opposite side of the building.

I realize the card readers are busted. This isn't a simple knob job. But look at how much space I've taken up here detailing these issues. Just fix the stuff. I won't get to deep into the light in the pool which appears to have been such a horrible oversight when the concrete was poured, but like....that must have been a fun moment, realizing whatever mistake it was that led to the pool light being installed the way it is.

All this aside, I'd still recommend the place. I'd still stay there again. It was clean, staff was very kind and helpful and knowledgeable, housekeeping left me the eff alone (thank you so much, seriously, I hate when housekeeping is all up in my business) they respected the DND sign. Bless you, housekeepers. When I did actually encounter housekeeping, it was a very nice woman who saw my son and I were going to the pool and she gave us towels. Seems like a small thing, but it's actually very thoughtful and appreciated.

Management, please fix those things? And anyone reading this, don't let my griping stop you from staying at a nice hotel. It really was nice. And AFAIK, not haunted...

Nice place. If I was reviewing only front desk staff, likely would have been 5 stars. If not for them, probably 3 stars. Reserved a room with a roll-in shower and a sofa. Asked for early check-in (before 3 pm) but ended up arriving at around 4 pm. Went to check in, but they were "inspecting" rooms and were a "little behind schedule." They took our phone number and told us they'd call. Got the call around 5:30 pm. Checked in and they apologized, and offered us $20 in their convenience shop. Okay. Hauled all of our stuff upstairs, wife noted there was only a chair, not a sofa and ottoman as the room description indicated. Went downstairs, talked to front desk; none of the ADA rooms have sofas. Okay, not what we asked for, but another chair would suffice. Went to dinner, came back and Voila! Another chair! Awesome! Next morning got up and jumped in the shower. Got out and half the bathroom floor was covered in water. Shower curtain was too high, and the shower pan seemed to lack slope to the drain. Told front desk; they had maintenance move the shower curtain rod down (they remarked it was the wrong style shower rod, so they ordered a new one). Still had some water issues, but they were manageable. We were in town for a wedding as were a number of other guests. Apparently, one reason this hotel was chosen was due to proximity to the wedding venue, and there was to be a shuttle. When one relative asked about the shuttle times, it was explained there wasn't a shuttle. Front desk staff to the rescue again! One of the staff split her shift to be available for our families. Unfortunately, the wedding venue had three parking lots, and guests and shuttle never connected. Our family virtually overtook the lobby areas, and we on occasion became loud. I'm a delivery driver, I needed a book of matches, I thought maybe I'll stop by the Marriott hotel since hotels only places you can get a small book of matches. I came in at 10:30 on a Monday morning, the VIN manager asked me how can I help you while sitting in her office, I asked her that I would like to have a book of matches if she can give me one. Manage everything gets up and proceeded to go behind the counter to grab the bus go matches, I comment on how it smells good in the lobby as they're cooking breakfast she then proceeded to tell me that unless I'm a guest I cannot have a box of matches... Now I'm not a guest, and I didn't stay the night there, but I would think that a general courtesy as to wanting to Garner business from individuals especially those who aren't staying at your facility, I would think that you should do something as small as giving a potential Patron a box of matches... As small as trivial as this may seem these are the little details of customer service that a guarantee or not to for sale throughout the facility at the Marriott... I usually don't even leave reviews, I have never actually left a review for anywhere in the recent past, but something like this in the business of customer service or things that will have me never ever stay at any Marriott. This is a customer service business, and every person is a potential customer, if you can't spare a book of matches as a courtesy what else can't you spare, I even told her to have a nice day and didn't have any attitude with her and she preceded by, if someone comes in as a box a matches, maybe consider next time that your attitude and willingness to help might factor into that future Patron considering to stay at your location, rather than riding a long detailed review about how you didn't have time enough to give me a simple book of matches.
