I rented a 9.5ft Kayak at this place during the off-season this week in Oct of 2024. I looked at the kayaks before entering the store and saw some nice ones and some "weathered ones". They were not busy and all of the kayaks were available. I paid for the rental and they delivered later that day to where I was staying. So, which of the yaks would you provide to a seasoned kayaker (we discussed experience level and my affinity for exploring the waterways in kayaks), as a business owner in the off-season renting from your place the first time? IMHO -I would deliver a fresh newer one to make an impression. They delivered the worst one they had.
Not exactly the first impression you'd want to give if you are running a business. Bungees were all broken, the eyelets had rusted, they used odd-sized bolts to replace the typical eyelets and fasteners, the seat and straps were frozen in place and the kayak, which was a red or orange originally, had now turned into a not-so-pretty oxidized dirty white. Then to top it off, the next morning, I noticed the paddle had been stolen overnight from the carport where I was staying. The stolen paddle was not their issue so I drove to the store to pay for the paddle. I explained what happened to the paddle and told them I wanted to cover the cost. They charged me 80 bucks for a paddle that was a POS to begin with. The store personnel checked Amazon and proudly announced it would only be 80 dollars. (-:
They were incredulous that I felt 80 was high for the paddle. Oh well, there are more places to rent from in the area. I will not...
   Read moreI was so excited to be invited on a beach vacation in Outer Banks- my first time! An avid paddle boarder, I decided to treat out group of 16 to 2 paddle boards for the week. That the company has a great rate and delivery was awesome. However it became apparent on day 1, that it was going to be impossible to paddle board in the ocean. I called the company 3 times - once to just ask for the boards to be picked up and at least a partial refund. I was told the manager would call me back. He didnât. I called again and he told me no. I called again upon learning g about The Sound, to ask if they could pick them up and take them to the sound for us. I gladly would have paid for the extra delivery. He said no. So $365 down the drain. I could have/should have done more research on the area and may have realized the ocean and paddle boarding arenât a good combo. But I did call before I rented to ask questions about the types of boards. I said weâd be in the ocean and I didnât know the experience levels of the other people. The girl could have told me then about the Sound being the better place. She should definitely have warned me that the ocean...

I called at 2:45 pm inquiring about renting 4 bikes, assuring him Iâd be there by 3pm, closing time. When I arrive @ 3:02pm the door is locked but the man working opens it to ask what he can do for me. I asked if I could rent 4 bikes, and he laughs saying âwhat, are you going to ride all 4 of these off right nowâ no, sir I was going to put them in the back of my truck.... He then smirks and says âno, youâre not. I would deliver them to you but Iâm leavingâ.
I understand that itâs now 3 minutes past your closing time, but to make a customer happy, sometimes you need to stay until maybe 10 after. I do not and would not in the future ever recommend renting from this company, who apparently doesnât want your money and cares less about their reputation. There are other places to rent, choose...
