We have been coming to Holden Beach for 30 years. We love this beach and the family environment. However, this trip did not meet our expectations and it was all avoidable. We stayed at Island Point, located at 1335 Ocean Blvd West. When we arrived around 4:30pm on Saturday, May 18th, we noticed within a couple hours the TV's were not working. I called Hobbs Realty, but it was a recorded line, because it is the weekend. Overnight, we realized the HVAC was not cooling properly, so we called again on Sunday. By this time, we also realized the internet was not working (which is why none of the TV's worked). In addition, the ice maker was not working, the coffee maker & hand mixer were both broken, 2 lamps & overhead lights not working in 1 Bedroom, and there was a broken chair on the porch. Hobbs did send someone on Sunday to address and fix the air conditioner, but Hobbs said all the other things would need to handled on Monday. On Monday morning, I decided to go into the office and left a list of everything that was not working and wanted to know what Hobbs was going to do about it. I met with Hayley F. from Hobbs, who was very nice and apologetic about everything that had happened. I also learned we were the first guests of the season, so obviously Hobbs had not done a thorough inspection of the property. Hayley said she would give me a call with an update as soon as possible and how Hobbs would address our concerns. I also mentioned that a couple family members were having to work from a coffee shop over the weekend on now into Monday afternoon because of no Internet. During the day on Monday, Hobbs did replace the broken items and brought ice. I finally heard back from Hayley, when she left me a VM at 5:10pm. I called back less than 10 minutes later, but they were closed, so I left a VM. The next day, which was Tuesday, I had not heard back from anyone, so I drove to the office around 11am and met with Hayley. She said she had discussed with management and they were able to give us a $200 credit for our troubles. I was shocked, less than 3% back, with all the issues we faced. I told her I was expecting at least 10%-15% based on all these issues, especially the TV/Internet, which started working Monday afternoon (the bill had not been paid). Hayley apologized and said she would check with management and get back to me. I never heard back from Hayley or anyone directly at Hobbs Realty. They did send us a swag bag with a few treats, but no call back. Perhaps extending rental office closing to 8pm on check in days with support to take care of any issues that the vacationer may observe would be so helpful. We realize things happen, this was just disappointing in the response time, especially for the internet and the inconvenience it caused for those of us that work remote and had to drive 30 minutes to find a place to work with Wi-Fi. I hope Hobbs reads this review and implements procedures to avoid these issues with other...
Read moreFor many years now... my sisters, our families and I have headed to the Carolina's to vacation over the week of Labor Day. Thankfully, over all those years, we have had good luck and had a nice place to stay for the week and great weather. However, last year was different. The house we stayed at in SC had storm surge damage to the pool area (the water was ocean water with lots of debris), and after calling every day to get the Realty Agent to get it cleaned for us, we were only allowed to use it for a day and a half out of the whole week we were there (extra money spent for a house with a pool lost). Not to mention the photos of the house online had been doctored and were a misrepresentation of the actual house which was in need of some major repairs and a LOT of cleaning. To add insult to injury... Our Father had been hospitalized the week of our vacation and upon our return home the following week... He passed away. Let me tell you... that whole trip left a bad taste in our mouths. When it came time to look at a house for our 2024 vacation... it was a bit nerve racking. We were worried about doctored pictures and if the money we would spend would be worth the place that we ended up renting. I think it was my brother-in-law who suggested my sisters and I take a look at Hobbs Realty. Then his next message was "Look at The Chicks Beach House." The house, view, and pool area looked beautiful online... and after looking at a few other Hobbs Rentals... we decided to rent "The Chick's Beach House." Let me just say... The pictures did not do the property justice. The house, the view, and the pool area were BEAUTIFUL!!! Better yet... absolutely everything we needed for our stay... the house provided. The only thing the house needed was Us and Groceries. The house was fully equipped with all appliances to make our stay comfortable (Coffee pots, blenders, mixers, Even A Crock-Pot!). The beds, furniture, and porch/pool furniture were comfy and sturdy. Most importantly... The house was CLEAN! The Chick's Beach House is definitely the nicest place we have ever stayed. Thank You Hobbs Realty for taking good care of your customers and clients... and a big Thank You to the Family who owns "The Chicks Beach House." Your home was truly "Home away from Home." Sincerely, The Taylor's, The Kline's, The Crabtree's, The Cutright's and Momma Dodds
P.S. We brought our mother (aka Momma Dodds) with us this year... and she had a...
Read moreWe decided last minute to take a trip to Holden. Rented an ocean front home at 687 OBW from Hobbs realty on their website Thursday march 31 for the week. Saturday afternoon, April 2, four hours into our five hour drive, Amanda from Hobbs calls me to inform me there is beach restoration going on and it “might impact” your beach access. I asked her what meant. She explained Holden beach was being restored and there would be bulldozers at work and the strip of beach in front of the ocean front home we rented “might” be closed. I told her this was not acceptable. That I had paid for an oceanfront home to be in the ocean front. She very politely told me there was nothing she could do, that Hobbs didn’t know where the restoration was, that city hall didn’t return their calls, etc. I asked to transfer my reservation, 36 hours old at this stage, and she said this was not possible. She could not explain why. She said they were working to find an alternative beach access for us. I told her I select and paid an oceanfront home so the walk to the beach for my 86 yr old grandmother and 75 yr old husband would be able to get to the beach easily. She said she would have to check with someone. We went ahead and checked in at 4pm. Came to house. Maids were working. Said they had just been told about the cleaning. Waited an hour and a half, finally got in to find beds not maid and no sheets in sight. Called Hobbs after hour line. Got a call back. Was told there “should be a bag of linens somewhere outside the house. Found in the car port and made up the beds myself so the promise of a stress free checkin was not accurate. It is now Monday morning. Our beach is blocked. Left a message this morning. No response yet So my belief is, the owner got their $3000+ rent and Hobbs got their money and I end up feeling scammed. There is NO WAY Hobbs should have rented this home. A phone call from them on Friday could have solved this issue. We could have selected a different home, one not impacted by this restoration. In April, they just aren’t that busy. I am very...
