UPDATE 2 - Jill called me this morning and was able to get me in this afternoon to see how we could fix my hair. I hate complaining, it's so awkward and I was honestly dreading going back in but Jill was still very nice and professional and made me feel comfortable. We were able to tone down the pink and brighten up the ends just a tad more without harming the integrity of my hair. It looks fabulous, though I'm a tiny bit scared to wash it but that's because my hair apparently likes to kick color out very easy and washing is an adventure these days š.
Jill is so sweet, she even spent an extra half hour with me after my appointment slot just to teach me how to curl my hair like she does, which she absolutely did not have to do. I appreciate the level of service and care she gives and I plan to continue to see her!
UPDATED REVIEW - Now that I have had a chance to wash my hair and get a good look at it and think about how my service went, I am much less happy with how it turned out.
I came in for a consultation the week prior to my appointment to see how my hair would bleach. My roots pulled pink, the ends that were blonde before pulled blonde. I didn't hate how my hair looked, but wanted to lighten up the ends a bit and see if we could add more blonde around my face to brighten it up some (basically blonde balayage). When I asked Jill if we could just do that, without having to do a color correction to cover the pink and purples, she said she was a professional and wouldn't leave random pink pieces because it would look like a mistake and it wouldn't look purposeful.
Okay no problem, I booked the $$$ color correction thinking we would just be covering the remaining fashion color with a darker brown and then lightening the ends as much as we could without running into the areas that bleached bright pink. Jill seemed absolutely shocked when my roots/regrowth turned pink even though that is what happened during my consult. So now instead of having a darker purple up top that semi blended in with my brown, it's bright pink. I still have random pink pieces throughout my hair and it still looks like a "mistake" and not purposeful. I'm not sure why I couldn't just have the ends lightened like I originally wanted when it just turned out how Jill said she didn't want to have it turn out. (My ends aren't really any lighter either). Kind of disappointing considering color corrections are very expensive and I don't feel like my hair is much different or better than it was. I'd be curious to see the before and after pictures she took, the ones I took look pretty much the same. Jill is an angel! I was very nervous about getting my hair done due to previous experiences at other salons where I didn't get what I asked for. Jill made me feel extremely comfortable as soon as I got there. She listened to me and showed me that she understood exactly what I wanted. I was getting a color correction to try and remove purple overtone from my hair, and it didn't go exactly as planned since the overtone turned bubblegum pink. Jill explained the options we had and made me feel good about the choice we made, even though it was different than what I had originally wanted. The end result is so pretty and I couldn't be happier! I've been getting my hair done for 20 years, and this might be my favorite color ever. Jill is so sweet and I am so glad I took a chance on going to a new salon and stylist. I definitely trust her with my hair which is hard for me to do, so that's big...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently moved to Holladay from Provo, where Iāve been seeing the same stylist for over two years. While I was a little nervous about visiting a new salon, I figured that a place with 4.7 stars couldnāt be too bad. Dear reader, I was wrong.
To be fair, the salon itself is relatively nice. The location is great, first of all, the interior looks pretty good. Itās got attractive decor, with the washroom being especially pretty and soothing. That being said, it was a bit dirtier than Iām used to, with a lot more loose hair on the floor at any given time. Still, the salon is nice enough, and the desk staff was very friendly and welcoming, which seemed like an auspicious beginning.
The problem was my stylist. I sat down with her, explaining carefully that I wanted to clean up my current cut: buzzed on the sides, longer on top, with some thinning out to deal with my massive amounts of coarse hair. I showed her a picture of how I liked it to look.
It didnāt work. As she was cutting, I had to repeatedly tell her that I wanted the sides shorter. She seemed super uncomfortable with using even a #3 guard on the sides, even when I said a #1 would be good. Then with the top: her idea of thinning was to take thinning shears and just cut parallel to the ground the entire way across.
The end result? My sides were longer than I wanted, and unevenly done so that my head looked a bit like an upside down pear. That might have been fixable, but the top was butchered. You know how huskies have a thick undercoat and then a longer, wispier coat? Thatās what it looked like. Iām frankly flabbergasted that they employ someone who thought her way of thinning was acceptable. I really should have refused to pay, but I was upset enough that I just wanted to leave.
I went home, evaluated the situation, and just buzzed the rest of my hair off. Iād thought about trying to get my Provo stylist to fix my hair, but her poor thinning technique meant my hair wasnāt really salvageable. So I buzzed everything super short, and now, months later, my hair is beginning to get close to where it used to be. I now make the drive down to Provo to see my old stylist.
Honestly, if you have long hair, this place might be fine. Your longer layers can hide poor technique far better than short hair can, and the place itself is decently nice. But if you have short, unforgiving hair like I do,...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePlease have your stylists ask clients if they want an additional service (e.g., Fusion Dose) before proceeding with the appointment. It is inappropriate to charge a client for something that was not recommended nor requested, putting them in a situation where they have no choice but to pay for something that fell outside their budget. It felt sneaky and under-handed. Clarification on the question of the client's budget, when asked, would save a lot of miscommunication, which occurred in my experience. This minor complaint, if fixed, will show a salon that values its customers. Otherwise, you risk a lousy reputation and lose clientele when you let it continue.
On a positive note, I did appreciate the welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. My stylist, Kylie Fowler, was pleasant to be around and friendly. She made me feel comfortable, and she was attentive to understanding my needs. I was very nervous going into my appointment because it had been over ten years since I had any color put in my hair. I am a redhead, and finding the right color for my hair can be tricky. I requested partial highlights of blonde, and the result was beautiful! She did a fantastic job on my hair. She is very talented and knows her stuff. I will be booking with her again based on the experience I had.
By the way, I appreciate that sanitation of the salon was...
