I've had better experiences at other Breakout rooms on the island. My group decided to tackle the Strange Case room since it has the lowest success percentage according to the website. Our expectations were increased by one of the staff members claiming to us that these were the best escape rooms in the state.
Once we started playing, things fell apart pretty quickly. The decor and theming of the room was pretty immersive, but the accompanying puzzles felt unpolished for the most part. Some of the puzzles made sense and/or were gratifying to solve. On the other hand, most were either unintuitive or had such a strange solution that they evoked a "seriously!?" from us rather than a sense of satisfaction. On top of this, our game master spammed us with hints way more than was warranted. We didn't even end up using any of our allotted clues since we got a free hint as soon as we spent more than a minute thinking about any given puzzle. By the last 15 minutes, some of our group actively started ignoring the GM's screen to avoid the unwanted hints. Also, the room was very linear, so there were very few opportunities to break into smaller groups to work on separate puzzles and we instead often found ourselves crowded around a single puzzle.
Overall, it was a below average escape room experience due to the quality of the puzzles and the excessive amount of handholding from the GM. Will be returning to other escape room establishments for future experiences.
As a footnote, the website advertises a discount code in the form of a riddle. Spoilers ahead: the solution is in the form of Roman numerals, although Alexander the Great was not Roman. We should have taken this as an indication of the quality of the puzzles we would find in the...
Read moreI had a great experience at Room With A Clue. This was my first time going to an escape game room. I was able to book my reservation online and it was quite easy. No walk in’s allowed at this time due to COVID-19. Room With A Clue offers some great discount deals, so take advantage while you can. We arrived early to check in and go over some safety & COVID-19 guidelines. The staff member was very helpful, pleasant and professional throughout the escape room challenge. The area was clean and hand sanitizer stations were available. PPE face covering is required at check-in. It was definitely assuring for me and my ohana knowing these proactive measures were in place at Room With A Clue. Safety First. As for the challenge…the puzzle was quite difficult. Fortunately, I had my ohana, lol. The kiddos really had fun trying to figure it out…we escaped but barely with little time left. We will be back to try out the other challenges. I highly recommend Room With A Clue as it’s a fun activity for families (2 – 7 players I believe) or even businesses looking for a team building activity to do. Their rates are affordable and visitor parking is free. Room With A Clue is located at the Nimitz Center, mauka corner of the 2nd...
Read moreI've played three different rooms here since it opened and it's always been a good experience. Great GM's, decent theming. Mostly lock-based progression. I remember the first game (now retired) being very linear, but current games allow for multiple simultaneous lines of clues. As long as they keep coming out with new games we'll be coming back.
2019 Update: four rooms now, still love it. Try the Christmas-themed room while it lasts!
2021 update: five rooms now, have to say I wasn't a fan of The White Room. The light puzzle needs maintenance (refill the batteries and make sure the arrows are pointing the right direction during reset, please), and the colors on the hearts aren't visible in the provided lighting, recommend providing a flashlight or using uv-reactive paint.
2022 update: Six games, Kobe Sushi Company is the second game by the designer of The White Room and it's a considerable improvement. We were glad to come back.
2025 update: I hate the new concept. This isn't an escape room. Absolute waste of time, our team will...
